James toneys opponent in UFC poss..

This is probably true but how could you know this? Have you seen Toney grapple, or fight from his back?

 

Tapping from anything is by definition a submission, he has also choked Ray Mercer but thanks for you're enlightening input.

 

Toney will throw at most 10 punches before this fight is over..

I feel sorry for Kimbo.

 

Toney will devour Kimbo if Kimbo is too stubborn to make it a grappling match. Kimbo has raw power, and even though he's been trained by Bas Rutten, Toney has been striking all of his life. Toney is a defensive master and will make Kimbo miss and demolish him if Kimbo doesn't try for a submission. The only possible ending for this is that Toney makes Kimbo look foolish on his feet and will eventually knock him out unless Kimbo decides to take Toney down and will then submit him relatively easily. Toney is able to go 12 rounds because he doesn't put forth a lot of effort. He doesn't waste movement. If he has to put his cardio into a wrestling match he'll tire very quickly - he's not in shape. The match hinges on whether or not Kimbo can swallow his pride and grapple with Toney.

 

Hope to see the fat man finally get KO'd and get the hell out of the scene for good. From "KLITSCHKOS DUCKING YO" to signing to fight Kimbo Slice.

And that Klitschko ducking thread went over 30 pages?, 30 pages of ******ed Toney fans believing his trash talk. The man had no intentions to accomplish nothing in the heavyweight division anyway because he knew he couldn't.

 

I'm not happy about James being in UFC but this is probably the best possible match-up for him.

Kimbo has a name and not much more. He is terrible and I expect Toney to embarrass him.

By definition it is a submission. It is in no way indicative of his ability to fight on the ground, or of his submission fighting prowess. He elbows Cantrell in the back of he head, Cantrell falls over, and then he hammerfists him in the back of the head, and Cantrell starts furiously tapping. It's quite possibly the worst thing I've ever seen.

And the fight with Ray Mercer was an exhibition. It doesn't show up on his record because it's meaningless. I'm sure he's guillotined some of his sparring partners too, but I don't take that as an indication that he has any BJJ chops.

 

Dana matches Toney soft, with guys he knows James can beat, and that'll build him up some and will even get boxing fans to take notice and start watching Toney's fights in MMA which = more money for UFC. And then Toney will get a shot at a champion or a really well known UFC fighter and it'll be a huge event that will draw in huge numbers. I don't think I'm wrong. This is how I see it going.

 

People don't know this to be fair but they are making an educated guess. I trend to side with the theory that Toney has little MMA skill and that it will be evident if he is taken off his feet.

 

HUGE FIGHT. There is nobody in the UFC that I'd rather see Toney fight than Kimbo Slice. The Hype up alone would be great.

completely true, he will get out classed unless they put him in against a fellow novice, its a bit sad that the ufc have done this... its pathetic that they are going to showcase a man with 0 fights to his name and is well well over the hill in his own sport

im an avid mma fan & a boxing fan, i wouldnt mind this happening if the boxer was in his prime, or close to it, but toneys fat, out of shape, unfit, a novice, has no love for the sport.... its a shame

 

why on earth would they throw a guy in who hasnt ever had a fight in mma, with no martial arts background, in with the champion ??

they will probably throw him in with someone as poor as kimbo, if not worse, for this first 1 or 2 fights, then have him pounded out in either his second or third fight

 

You make a really good point here.

These forums were full of people claiming, and rightly so that Toney was shot and very little left. Looking at his fights from Oquendo onwards I'd say that's a fair assessment. Now, all of a sudden he steps into MMA and has unaged by a 5 years?? He is still 40 odd and I have a sneaky suspicion that his ability to take a punch has diminished and his mobility, reflexes and timing are also "going". He is at the stage where he can literally age overnight.

He was such a good fighter and I sincerely hope he doesn't regret this UFC move.
