I don't think he was all that marketable back then to be honest with you, he was a great fighter but I don't think he was that popular from a marketing point of view for Nike to say "he's our posterboy for boxing because he's the best".

They took a chance on him and have been rewarded by how popular he's become since then, I don't think anyone at Nike could have predicted he would move up through the weights and become as popular as he has so I think it's fair to say they got lucky with the deal.

Sorry Chibiku, but I dont think it's possible to have intelligent discussion with people who actually believe Nike would only pay 74k to their top endorser in their largest and most populous market.

mate, thats not how it works here. you should at least provide some credentials first to show that you work on the gym or has some inside access to pac's camp if you would not provide a link or an evidence. though i don't necessarily doubt your story cause nike could certainly pay pac that amount of money.

but yes i agree, that floyd is a jealous *****. all i heard from him since ducking pacquiao is to malign him in the press and media.

pac was well known already back then after fighting barrera, marquez and morales. pac had a huge following on the mexican market and of course he is starting to get known in asia. pac would be nike's face in boxing in asia. nike did not only took a chance on him. pac was labelled p4p the most exciting boxer taht time so that could have made it easier for them to pick pacquiao. of course nike could always sign two faces but decided just to stick with pacquiao.

i think it was Nike recognizing that PAC has incredible influence in his country and that Nike saw a way to get in on the money in that region where he is from not to say they arent getting money frm that region...it just helps when you have such a influencing star as Pac from that area....also the fact that Pac is big in his country and or region but not as much influence in the USA leads me to believe that thats why they offered such a low amount.

could be wrong though...Usain Bolt has a contract as well and i would say he is just as popular no?

    Who isn't?

How am I making stuff up?

puga_ni_nana claimed Nike signed up Pacquiao because they sign up all of the top sportsman in whatever sport they are involved in, I pointed out that Pacquiao wasn't the best back then and wasn't as marketable compared to other boxers, like De La Hoya if you want me to give you an example.

I've never claimed Pacquiao wasn't marketable and I do realise that their is a market in Asia which is why Nike sponsored Nakata too, however they didn't sponsor either because they were the best at the time which was the point I was getting at with my original reply.

Fair enough, I have no link. But I don't need one. My argument is simply to illustrate that Floyd spreads lies and propaganda in virtually every way he can about Pacquiao. From baseless drug accusations and now to an absurd lie that Pacquiao gets 74k from Nike. LMAO!!

How about one of the Floydettes find me a link proving Nike, a FORTUNE 500 company paying their top Endorser for Asia, their largest and most populous market.

The fact is, Floyd is so jealous that Manny got the Nike deal and Floyd had to give up his Jordans and settle with British Knights that he's gotten desperate and his only his fans are stupid enough to believe Nike would pay one of their endorsers 74k.

    :patsch

Most need money but not everyone go to the extent of bordering greed. In your opinion do you think everyone should behave like floyd?

I need money, enough money to secure my future but I certainly wouldnt go that low.

If Pacquaio was getting $30 million from Nike then Arum would be the first one setting Mayweather straight with his claims.
