I hope this is true. I just argued with my cousin about Cotto's heart. He said Cotto has the same heart as Gatti and I disagree. Cotto has warriors heart BUT he has heart to stay in the fight and and continue to take a whoopin. Gatti had the heart where he would be taking a whoopin but STILL TRIED TO KO OR WIN. Cotto runs backwards now when in trouble and only fights to keep someone off him then continues to run. Gatti actually still tried to win until the last bell rings.
Williams is all wrong for Cotto. Pressure fighters are Cotto's weakness and Paul doesn't pull any punches.
Still disagree with you on that Dbou. I don't think Cotto would get in there with Williams. why do that to himself in his last fight. I still think there is a better chance of a Cintron than Williams. But, we'll see. You may end up being right. But I hope not. I cannot think of a worse opponent than Williams for Cotto, simply because of the size/reach difference.
quality of opposition. Corley and Torres both almost had Cotto out at 140. Those guys don't come close to Cotto's recent quality of competition.
yes he is all wrong and it would be one sided but arum will cash him out. if cotto doesnt hang'em up then williams will be calling him out like crazy and it would be a good money for both sides. i'm tellin' ya its gonna happen if cotto wins.
Cotto should hang em up after Foreman even if he does win because Arum will just keep using Cotto's name to set up big fights so he can get paid.
I'm not as convinced as many seem to be that Cotto is finished or even diminished. He lost to Margarito in a stylistic nightmare, and possibly because of loaded gloves. Don't forget, Mayweather turned down 8 million and a direct challenge to run from Antonio like a terrified woman. He also lost to Paq, but not before inflicting considerable punishment to the first or second best fighter in the whole world. Again , Mayweather did every thing he could to avoid fighting Paq as well. As talented and accomplished as Mayweather is, one of his greatest talents is picking and avoiding the right opponents. Cotto does not indulge in this practice , totally willing to engage anyone anytime. Maybe this has more to do with Cotto losing a couple and Floyd staying unbeaten than most people believe. Yuri Foreman is so incredibly ordinary, it's pretty obvious that for one of the few times in his career, Cotto is fighting a carefully chosen opponent. He'll probably go back to 147 after this workout. There is a huge difference between losing to Margarito and Paq, and losing to Foreman.
i know i know but i'm tellin' ya williams will be foaming at the mouth for a fight if cotto wins. arum will see the $$ potential in a title fight. its almost inevitable. (i'm assuming williams gets past cintron)
I completely agree. He loses 2 tough fights and people are calling for his retirement. I don't think that is right. Margarito was indeed a stylistic nightmare, and Pacquiao is just amazing. Cotto needs to get himself a good trainer and get back his old self. He's not over the hill. All he really needs is a few tweaks (utilize his jab, concentrate on body attack, tighten up defense) and he could be back on top again. Foreman is definitely the safest choice at JMW and I see Cotto being able to pull it out. I don't think Cotto could compete with many of the guys at JMW (Williams, Martinez), but Foreman is simply not at that level.
he got beat up by one of the best ever in manny pacquiao. he must be shot. atsch if he does hire buddy mcgirt (which i'm having a hard time believing he's actually considering), then i'll be more inclined to say he should retire.
This fight is make or break for Cotto. However boxing is full of politics and spin and I can sense already what might happen. If Yuri manages to defeat cotto then Yuri V Pac will be the next fight at 154 for Yuri belt. By Yuri defeating Cotto, Arum will spin it that Yuri is a young hungry dangerous fighter who on his day could beat anyone. After pac wins a title at 154 he will retire, a successful and accomplished champion.
With all due respect, but Spinks spanking him bad's got to be the funniest one I've heard on this thread. Cotto v. Stinks would be like the Judah fight sans the latter's power. Spinks can run all night long, but his feather-fistedness will be his undoing, Cotto will eventually catch him up and punish him badly for a T/KO win. Angulo would be a 50-50 for me, but Cotto's better skills will be slightly favored here. The Margarito comparison is spot on, minus the rocks. Cotto was boxing Margo beautifully for like 4/5 of the fight until Miguel succumbed to the possibly padded gloves. Ishida's another feather-fisted and very pedestrian interim champ (WBA) which Cotto would KO. You are seriously underestimating Miguel, man. There is no shame in his losses whatsoever. He is good and 154 is weak, so I will not be surprised if the Boricua warrior would make some splash in this division. Cheers.
Am I the only one who thinks Cotto was an even better fighter at 147 than 140? He beat Quintana pretty easy, did really well against Judah, beat Mosley, lost to Margo, beat Clottey, lost to Pac. Look at Cotto 140... You think if he hadn't gotten better he would've been able to be so succesful at 147? [yt]Sk6gV6aGXPQ[/yt] I'm really not trying to hate. I love to watch Cotto fight but its this whole "he was better at 140" thing that bothers me.
