totally agree with you. last year he was contemplating a move straight up to featherweight.

it's a funny matchup, if it happens. hasegawa should be 122 or 126. montiel probably should be 112 or 115. how will each perform when (if) they meet at 118? hasegawa too big? hasegawa dead at the weight?

Yeah right!! Montiel was ducked by most 115-118 Kirilov, Mijares and Agbeko. How is he suppose to show he is the best when no one is willing to trade? Montiel destroys these pretenders one-by-one BTW.I feel Hasegawa is good but he is fighting someone on his level a strong, strong mexican fighter for the first time in his life.

yep it definitely is off. montiel will defend the WBO belt and won't (or his handlers wo't let him...) sign the contract.

hasegawa should stop wasting his time at bantam. challenge either poonsawat, nishioka, chris john or elio rojas.

montiel - last 2 fights = farce. little claim to being a bantam champ anyway. montiel v morel = obscure shitty PPV. arum just wants to match his fighters vs each other, keep it in house and "**** the fans" as he would say out loud.

one thing: the japanese should not announce the fight when it's not even on.

Montiel - Hasegawa signed, back on?

FN's Joe Koizumi reported yesterday that Fernando Montiel and his Mexican promoter signed the contract and the fight is on. Now there are two parallel stories running: Hasegawa's team announced the fight a few days ago and now confirmed Montiel's signiture, whereas Bob Arum, Fernando's US promoter denied any kind of deal in the past days, though he's not yet commented on the latest news. Is it Bob Arum's lack of effective communication with his fighters again, just like with Pavlik for the Mora fight? Could be the fight on without Arum's blessing or can he stop this great match-up happening?

I guess it's a matter of days and we'll have a final answer. But Bob Arum better let this happen and fill up his idiotic small time PPV shows with a bunch of cheating Julio Cesar Chavez Juniors.

Good fight. I got Hazegawa in this one.

The BW division is really starting to land the good fights.

Perez vs Mares, Hazegawa vs Montiel, Morelno vs Cermeno

    Almost a super-six.

    This scenario could be good:

    Perez/Mares vs Hazegawa/Montiel
    Morelno/Cermeno vs Agbeko
Winners face off to crown an undisputed champion. Then there would still be lots of challengers: Donaire, Morel, Bakhtin, Mabuza, Bouziane/Simphiwe.

It's looking real good at BW.

I am so damn excited for this fight. Hasegawa mid-late KO. This fight is just as, if not more compelling than the ones everybody's talking about. Bantamweight is staaaaaacked. Next best division after 140 and 147.

According to the scene that knows a fair bit about fisticuffs it might be back on, despite Arum's best efforts.
Montiel's promoter Fernando Beltran, said that a commitment had been made to fight Hasegawa in Japan on April 30th.
Obviously Morel's people will do their best to disrupt this I'd asume.

I do! I started a thread about it a few days ago but it got like 4 replies and was soon swallowed in the pack of Manny/Money/Mosley threads.

Hasegawa late KO. He's on a hot streak right now, and is one of my favorite fighters.

I want to see Nonito Donaire rematch Darchinyan and if he wins, move up to Bantamweight. Hasegawa-Donaire is one of my dream fights for 2010-2011.
