I'm not calling Hearns unbeatable at this weight I don't discount him in any fight at welter against anyone. So the question is not necessarily who can beat him but who should be a clear favorite of Tommy Hearns at 147?

    Robinson
    Leonard
    Walker
    Burley
    and a controversial pick: Trinidad.

    As Bodhi says

    Robinson, Leonard, Walker & Burley.

I would say if anyone had a chance of 'outboxing' Hearns it would be Kid Gavilan or Charley Burley.

Also Napoles could be favoured due to his ability to use his defence to set up his own offence and he hits fairly hard and could KO Hearns.

Bodhi could you explain the Tito pick though?

I'd give Trinidad absolutely very slim chance, he is one of the most over-rated fighters of the last 20 years .. If De La Hoya outboxed him for most of their fight Hearns would absolutely dominate him boxing wise. Trinidad gets the push because he was an exciting fighter in a more media driven, hyperbole age .... Hearns is of a higher caliber all round than Trinidad, Hearns had power and was a brilliant boxer, he's called into question sometimes because of the chin BUT in his prime he was only beaten by stellar all time greats like Leonard and Hagler .. Barkley got extremely lucky throwing that shot with his eyes closed in the first fight .... Hearns would enjoy teaching Trinidad a lesson !!

The easy answers are Robinson, Burley, Walker, and Leonard.

Not unbeatable by any means at all. Hearns lack of experience and durability issues would see him defeated by most of the top men at 147 IMO, which is why he isn't in my top 10 at the weight. I pick Napoles, both Sugars, and Basillio to do the job and make him even money with Armstrong, Gavilan, and Curry.

He was pretty close to unbeatable at 147 but SRR would be a favorite and Paul Williams would nullify the advantages he had over every other opponent at that weight.

While I do agree that Tito would get raped by Hearns, I actually think he is underrated at 147. If you just forget about everything after 2000 and focus on his prime, you'll see what I mean.

He is as tall as him, nowhere near as skilled. PW would take a hiding.

I hought of Gavilan and Napoles but he asked who would be favoured, I wouldn't favour those two. I'd put them on even money but I wouldn't favour them.

Tito is a gut pick. If Hearns choses to outbox him, he would do so and knock him out late. But I don't think he would. Hearns could be drawn into a war and I have the feeling would do so. And while Hearns was the harder puncher, he also was the one with the questionable chin. Tito was a wrecking ball at welterweight and I think if they get into a brawl it would be Tito who prevails.
