it should be noted as a good showing of tysons abilty's later in the game. he shown alot of speed and killer intinct in this fight. he might of tired if it gon on. but tyson rarley tired easily. and if he did he would just clinch or vamp to get his breath back.

golota after taking a start of a beating i think just didnt want it and had too much pride to pretend to be koed or carry on taking punishment. he wanted to leave on his feet without taking a beating...and thats exactly what he did

    from boxrec.com

Later it is revealed that Golota has a broken bone in his head, which could have pierced his brain, should the fight have continued. Golota claimed in the dressing room that Tyson was headbutting him all the time during the fight, but the referee did not warn Tyson.

it takes mad balls to not care what people think, golota could have very well died if he kept fighting on to save face with all the "badasses" , he knew he was hurt and wisely quit, i still think ultimately tyson would win that fight but it would have been alot better of a fight if golota was not injured, i remember reading somewhere that the orbital bone injury happened before the fight while sparring, and golota knew beforehand going in he was injured, anyone know about this?

    Dear mario
    kind regards
    In response to your comments.

Yes, that is what the doctor claimed.
Personally I think that Golota bribed the doctor to create that report, it is not a very hard thing to do in America.
How could Golota have gotten such injuries when he was hardly ever hit?
Golota is stronger than alot of Tyson's past opponents, who were hit alot more.
I don't buy the story of his injuries.

Yes, but then Golota should have retaliated like he promised that he would before the fight.
It would have made for good viewing and would have given the people their moneys worth.

    I don't think so.
From the start of the first round, Golota was in hysterics, although he was keeping Tyson at bay with the jab, it was a very weak jab.
Golota didn't want to throw punches and he was afraid of fouling because he knew that Tyson would give as good as he gets.

If that really is the case, then WHY take the fight?
Why didn't Golota recover and then face Tyson?
No one should step into the ring with Tyson unless 100% healthy and prepared.
    yours thankfully
    John

I remember seeing that red drink thrown at him as he was walking to the dressing room and immediately thinking "holy ****, he's been shot".... until he kept on walking!

Headbuts are part of the game they happen just as foul balls happen in baseball so deal with it, What did you expect the ref to do the fight didnt even get to the end of round 2 for god sakes? and the ref should have been taking points from the get with out warnings? get real.
Golota did have a slipped disc in his neck so he is lucky he quit when he did, Honestly I expected this to happen Golota freezes up when faced with a threat Tysons biggest asset was getting in his opponents mind Golota was the perfect guy for mike at that time.

I remember thinking Golota must be very durable because he absorbed a big right hand, right on the chin, from Tyson in round one, but still got back up.

For me, it was a good performance by Tyson, who looked ok, given that most people thought he was completely shot as a fighter. Tyson was in shape, weighing 22lbs, only 1lb heavier than when he first won the title.

The actual damage Tyson inflicted was not discovered until after the bout. Golota suffered either a broken jaw or had a damaged eye-socket. I know Tyson did some damage.

People may suggest if Golota would have continued he may have won, but I think it was only a matter of time for Tyson. Mike took what Golota had, but Golota didn't takeb what Mike had so well.

I was highly disappointed when the win was ruled a N/C because of Tyson failing a drugs test. It was one of Tyson's better performances for that stage of his career. The Golota fight was Tyson last fight where he weighed under 16st.

    Dear Danny

    I agree.
Even Glen McCrory said "it says something about the chin of Golota to get up from that" during the video replay of the knockout at the end of round 1.
The fact that Golota got straight up from that shot is a testament to his strength.

Yes, it is a testament to Tyson's conditioning.

    How do we know that?
It seemed to me that Tyson hit him cleanly about 10 times during the two rounds and half of those shots were to the kidney.

Golota didn't throw any significent punches at all, he was boxing scared.
He had to be continually prompted by Al Certo to throw his right hand.

    I agree.
    yours thankfully

I felt sorry for Golota in the post fight interview, you could see he wasnt right.

As for the fight, Tyson was a midget compared to him and nowhere near his best form but still managed to get the win.

It's simple guys: golota suffered a broken cheeckbone and tyson was fit and ready for one of the few times in his later career. golota and a lot of heavy's wouldn't have beat tyson that night. and golota did the right thing given his injury even if he didn't know exactly what it was at the time.

Tyson would have knocked him out even if the fight went into the later rounds..

    Dear Friends
    kind regards
Take a look at this clip of Andrew Golota's ring entrance on the night he fought Tyson.

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lK_MaAEuRKo[/ame]

Golota took literally ages to come out of the dressing room and wouldn't even leave without being prompted out by Al Certo.
The fact is that Golota was a beaten man before he got to the arena that day and was ready to quit before he got into his ring gear.

    Dear Moralman
    Kind Regards

I saw this fight as sort of a comeuppance for Golota.

The fact that he quit only proved my viewpoint of the man as a bully.

Once said bully got bullied around the way he did, he couldn't take it and gave up.

Perfect ending to one of the biggest wastes of talent in the history of boxing.

    Yours truly,
    Juan
