Holyfield vs. Botha. A ridiculous PPV???

    Evander Holyfield (47) will face Frans Botha (41) in the Thomas & Mack Center in Vegas in April. It'll be televised on PPV but blacked out in Las Vegas. Holyfield will receive $150,000 plus a percentage from the PPV telecast.

    Botha will make $100,000. This info is according to the Las Vegas Review Journal. This fight is on PPV but blacked out in Vegas???? IMO, this bout shouldn't even be on PPV. What say you, ESB?

    my first thought is there is going to be a lot of empty seats in the Thomas and Mack Center it seats 20k for Boxing.

    It's only on PPV because no other decent network wants it. That's how PPV works these days. No one wants to watch the fight so promoters put it on PPV in hopes of not losing out too much money off the damn thing.

    According to our local paper, the capacity for the fight will be 9,500, with only the lower bowl being used.

    If he fought Tyson for the 3rd time, I bet the arena would be sold out, or at least close to it.

    botha is gonna look like he was in a ****ing war and destroyed...and then the judges will give it to botha...and holyfield will smile and shake his head....same as the valuev fight....

    I think it will definitely be sold out in the arena and the PPV numbers would probably be a little bit more decent. A Holyfield/Tyson bout would not be outside the realm of possibility. Holyfield also said he's not going to retire until he wins the HW title belt and unify it.

    Holy isnt fighting for 150K believe that. Funny in the most recent Tyson related interview he said hes only interested in fighting for a title, yet hes fighting Botha? I guess he wants the South Africa title?

    Showtime can take some blame for that. They can put boxing on CBS but instead you will see something like Strikeforce on there. :fire

    Unfortunately it takes two to tango. Declining ratings and declining PPV buys usually mean less interest.

    PPV is the necessary evil right now. If fights sell, Boxing will get more TV exposure.

    I'm pretty sure CBS chooses what goes where and not the other way around. I know CBS rejected a proposal from Bob Arum to put Pavlik on CBS so I think the onus is on them.
