At 147 who should be favored over Tommy Hearns?

only robinson and leonard are definite beaters of hearns

 

On paper Tommy Hearns should be able to beat anyone at 147. He has great size and uses it will. He can punch, and he has a better than often suguested chin. Yes Ray Leonard did stop him but that was after 14 hard fought rounds.

 

I havent seen any of these fights in a while but I seem to remember he was down and hurt early in his career. Vargas had him down and ready to go before the low blows

Tito also wasnt mixing it with big threats for most of his career

 

Tito was like Louis. He could be floored but he recuperated fast, got up and knocked his opponents out. His opposition wasn' great but he defeated most of them empathically.

 

He also struggled to get past Delahoyas jab and movement, Winky owned him with the jab, both pale in comparison to Hearns jab

 

Tito was never hurt in any of the knockdowns he was in whether it was against Oba Carr, Campas, Lueshing or Vargas. And Tito was not ready to go against Vargas you clown. Stop making up ****.

I never disputed that! But I don't think the jab would be much of a factor there, Hearns wouldn't box Tito, he would be drawn into a war. And I think Tito's chin and left hook would finish him off. Like I said it's a gut pick not a reasonable one.

 

Did I touch a Titos fan nerve, he fouled to survive when he was on shaky legs, great fight but dirty play from Tito

Have you noticed how often you are getting slaughtered by a parade of posters on this forum who you attempt to debate? Are you realizing that just because you run off and find a youtube video of a fighter from the 40s and then post an off-the-cuff opinion that it isn't worth spit?

If you have any self-respect, you would settle in at General Forum, indulge your understandable regard for Floyd, et al., and perhaps research fighters from yesterday on your own time.

Bodhi, seconded by GPater, offer Burley as a fighter who can be favored over Hearns.

I used to make the same claim, but am no longer so sure. Ezzard was Hearns-like as a MW, though more durable. Burley had a helluva time coping with the speed, the power, and the boxing skill of the man then called the Cincinnati School Boy. Burley's only chance would be to come on late, a la Leonard, and break him down after weathering an unnatural storm. Over 12, no. Over 15, possibly.

 

Well, he has been capable of some good insight in the past. His penchant for insult and ill-informed argument as of late has really eclipsing his virtues.

A shame. The more conscientious posters we have on this forum the better (emphasis on conscientious). We also have an obligation to beat-up on and sweep out the riff-raff.
