If Hopkins challenged and fought Calzaghe at 168 in 2002, but in US...

Calzaghe is one of the few boxers who can justifiably be described as a slapper. I had him losing the Hopkins fight, as I don't score slaps. But that's me, the general consenus seems to be that as long as it hits, it counts. So if that holds true in this wonder match, it's hard to look past Calzaghe getting a decision, simply because he'll... "outpoint" Hopkins.

Why are you Hopkins fans in denile about Calzaghe's attempts to secure a fight with Hopkins in the early 2000's?

Hopkins would dominate Calzaghe. Hopkins was close to his prime and had just annihilated the MCS.

if this happened back in 2002, before calzaghes hands got ****ed and when hopkins was a little younger, hopkins would have still used the same tactics as he did in 2008 but he would have went a bit longer. calzaghe would have been a lot more aggressive and would have been punching a lot harder.

ill go with calzaghe by MD or SD but **** me it would be close :nut

and roy jones! he tried to get roy jones too! :deal

lets be honest though, calzaghe wasnt making the money back then and he was known very little in america so i can understand why they didnt take the fight! at that time in his career, he should have left FWP and moved to america. he would have had a lot more respect over there now if he had done!

so u have to be an athlete to rate one? What are u talking about? I think anyone can make an educated guess as to a good athlete.
In case you cant remember hopkins turned down the fight in 2002 due to monetary issues so calzaghe wasnt that smart of a **** offering him the fight if u indeed think hopkins would have knocked him out. KO is a bit strong although I do think he would have outpointed him.

I have alot of respect for calzaghe and was a fan without ever referring to him as a great, cause he clearly isnt, he didnt face enough top class opposition, but you cant seriously put him in the same fold as sven ottke thats just bull****.

That isnt really a valid reason considering the fighters the fighters Jones had fought like: Telesco, Harmon, Frazier, Brannon
Hopkins: Hakkar, Daniels, Lipsey and Allen

I am fully aware of the attempts to get these to together back then. Showtime offered Hopkins a 3 fight deal worth $6 million which included fighting Calzaghe and Harry Simon(a very good potentially great fighter then).

Fact is there really wasn't much demand for these 2 to meet as Calzaghe was a non entity in America. Most US critics and ring magazine wrongly had Sven Ottke as the number 1 supermiddle as he had beaten amercians Tate and Brewer.

To suggest Hopkins ducked Calzaghe back then is ludricous when there was little interest at the time and in 2002 Hopkins only fought a mandatory against Carl Daniels as he was spending most of his time trying to get a rematch with Tito and arguing with Don King who was screwing him over as he does everyone.

Hopkins opposition post Tito initially was very poor due to a combination of them being mandatories (Hakkar, Danels, Allen) and Don King ensuring Hopkins only fought fighters under his promotional banner or that he could get options on.

Back then Calzaghe wouldn't have made him much money and he wouldn't have gotten any prestige as Calzaghe was simply seen a title holder of a weak division. UK fans like myself of course new Calzaghe was the real deal and vastly underated but tell that to the US critics and TV networks back then and you would have been laughed at.

    Nice avatar by the way.

Not a chance Calzaghe has a very good chin and recovers very quickly. Look at the Mitchell knockdown, he got caught flush while throwing a punch much like Urango did against Alexander and was up in seconds and beating Mitchell up a few seconds after that. Only way BHop gets a KO is if Margarito's trainer is wrapping his hands.
