I've always been a hatton fan for his willingness to fight anyone and go get em style. He was a good fighter but never a great, alot of limitations and between punishment taken ie tszyu, thaxton, magee etc and balooning between fight i think his later career has suffered. I know there is an arguement that he has only lost 2 (and to 2 ATG's) but i think he should retire as i really feel the punch resistance is gone and when u lead with your head...........
Ricky Hatton is the reason i fell in love with boxing !!!!! , i was always a fan but when i seen Hatton the hairs on the back of my neck stood up and bang i fell in love with the sport . Boxing just aint the same without the little fella . :|
No-one can say Hatton wasn't genuinely brilliant against Tszyu. I just don't think he ever scaled those heights again though. He put it all together for one night and fought amazingly well, but in many of his other fights his flaws were very apparent (Magee, Collazo, Mayweather, Pacquiao, etc). I don't think he was ever well-rounded enough to be considered one of the best fighters in the world. His lifestyle outside the ring was a joke as well, he just wasn't in the Pacquiao/Mayweather/Mosley league. A very good light-welterweight on his night, but not a great fighter IMO. I have so much respect for his mentality though, chasing fights with the best available. Good career.
The Cortez debacle in the Mayweather bout is so played out and tired. Hatton was always nortorious for wrestling his opponents into the ropes, holding and punching, and using rough house tactics to get his way in many fights. When Cortez took that away from him, he crumbled under the punishment of a truely skilled fighter. Dont get me wrong, I was pulling for Hatton all the way in that fight. . . but why are you guys so bent up on painting this picture that the only reason he lost was because Cortez wouldnt let him use illegal tactics? Yea, Floyd used his forearm to push Hatton off him, but it was in defence of Hatton leaping in, grabbing around the waist and trying to push him into the ropes where he can hold and hit. I agree Mayweather could have suffered a warning for it, but at the same time, its NOT the reason Hatton lost that fight. He lost because at the end of the day. . . He wasnt able to carry Floyds ****ing jock strap regardless, Hatton has had a good career, made money, didnt duck, and was entertaining to watch. . just leave it at that and keep it real
I want to see hatton fight cotto and he didnt loos to pac because of mayweather he lost because he cant take a punch anymore. Even if he could he would have lost. By the time rick gets in he eats 3 to 1 all day. Grahm Nacho Stewart Dundee Roger Sr couldnt help ricky beat pac Roach could have Trained him and SR could have Trained Pac and Hatton wouldnt have beat him. Pac and Floyd are just Better then him. Ricky should go in the Hall of Fame in my opinon and I want him to Fight Margarito or Cotto. Cotto aint the same and margo wont be the same level playing field here why dont matches like this get made!
I agree, thats how I see it, except for the didnt duck bit, I always felt he avoided Corley when he Hatton WBO no.1 contender, Judah and Witter, but still hes had a good career and done well and in my eyes should still be the no.1 LWW above Bradley now Pacquiao has moved to WW (his fights with Maywheather & Collazo were at WW and shouldnt count in the LWW ratings) with wins over Tsyzu, then WBA champ Maussa, then and current IBF champ Urango, Castillo, Lazcano and Malignaggi over Bradleys current record of wins over Witter, Cherry, Holt and Peterson, the Campbell fight was a ND
Hatton's fans take Cortez to task for Cortez's not allowing Hatton to fight his usual dirty fight, but find it perfectly acceptable for Parriss's totally(but usual, considering his history) incompetent job in Hatton's greatest win against Kostya Tszyu. And Hatton's fans wonder why he has just as many detractors.
Hatton was a monster at 140, if only for a short time. He will get into the HOF, but he will never be an alltime great. People on the British forum are ignorant to his achievements whilst at the same time bigging up Junior Witters mediocre achievements. And they all cling to the same line that Hatton "ducked" and was "scared" of Witter yet he fought three modern greats in Tszyu,Mayweather and Pacquaio.....but he was scared of Witter
hattons ok. makes me laugh how a man thats done what he has done and still getd knocked. great figher
It doesn't matter a **** what clowns on Internet forums say about Hatton. You wont see many fighters take 20,000+ fans across the Atlantic to cheer him on.
Just feel sorry for the man, great fighrter, loses a couple of fights and everyones on his back, joke really, as if losing to Manny AND floyd is a disgrace
Hatton is truly one of the most overrated, overexposed (and subsequently 'exposed')fighters of the last 10 years.
