No fighter of Hatton's talent level ever gets that much exposure, or the opportunities to fight the best in the world. Hatton had 10's of thousands of fans who would travel the world and cheer him against ANYONE, thats what got him those two big fights.

That doesnt make him overated, just well liked.

Ive met Hatton and he was a top fella. Not one of my favourite fighters as he beat my main man Tszyu, but i enjoyed watching him fight.

If Hatton reitred tomorrow imo he can retire with his head held high. 2 Division world champion, WBA,IBF 140 lb champion.

    Quality wins over Tszyu, Castillo

Lost only to the best in Mayweather and Pacquaio.

I honestly cant see how the guy was overated or overprotected, etc.

Great post. Hatton does get a lot of **** for basically just fighting to the limit of his abilities and pushing himself.

Ricky brought a LOT of new fans to the sport, any fighter who does that should get a pat on the back from any fan.

Exactly, its as though people expect him to be fighting like Mayweather.

Sorry man. I won't say he wasn't a nice person, but he was B- at best as a boxer. I do agree with you about him being able to retire with his head held up high. No matter the fashion of the loss, to say these were the only two guys who could take you out is honorable.

You call Tszyu and Castillo quality? Come on. That Tszyu fight was a borderline MMA match. That ref was garbage. Castillo was a shell.

He was overrated and overprotected. That is why Collazo beat the brakes off of him and he ran from WW. The guy was tough and basic at best.

Hatton was considered a great fighter until he got exposed for the C level punching bag he is. Once people figured out the best way to beat him was stay outside and counter him when he jumps in, it becomes an easy night for whoever faces him. I mean, Juan Lazcano almost KO'd him with the same punch Mayweather did. He's a good brawler, that's about it.

What you can say about him is he fought the two best fighters in the world.

Wish he could still face the champs now at 140, though I think it is like a wishful thinking at this time.

I think guys are going a little hard on wee Rick here. To me he was a bit of an overachiever in relation to his talent. I know his style was ugly to watch, but he seemed willing to take on anyone. This is something that a lot of European fighters get accused of not doing. Not only that, but he only lost to THE 2 best guys of his era, around his weight.

Losing to two of the best boxers the sport has ever seen erases everything he's ever accomplished. Right?
