Why don't journeymen boxers bet against themselves to get rich?

It probably happens. The one big issue is that the books will take notice. Most books restrict the amount wagered on those type of bets. It would be a once in a lifetime thing. Yes they probably get bets down against themselves but which round is doubtful. They may get on the over/under as well.

Other then MAJOR fights, it is difficult to get action on most fights in Vegas. (IF you know of one let me know) Online carries a lot more fights. The over/under is usually has much closer wagering odds. So you might be a tomato can facing a stud. You might see -1000 against you winning but the over/under is set at 8.5 rounds. -130 under +110 over (made up numbers)

If you are sure you can let him get you out of there before the middle of the ninth get some money on the under.

Most online books have max bets. So you'd have to have money on a bunch of sites. It would be problematic getting your money. You need to have somewhat of a betting history online at a site to get easy withdraws. If you all of the sudden put 100k on a site, make a few small wagers, make a monster on one fight, and then want your money, a lot of sites will give you a hassle. Some may even cancel the wager. Online isn't regulated well and they can pretty much do what ever they want.

 

Well, if someone does it, he is probably not going to talk about it on a forum. Another problem (apart from those already mentioned) is that we are not talking about big fights here, so betting serious amount of money on any outcome will change the odds against you.

 

He would have to use an alias, or better yet, launder the money through other people's account. It would seem mighty suspicious for Jim Thompson to set up an account using how own credit card, and bet on Jim Thompson losing in the first round.

Online betting is reputed, provided you use the famous sites. You don't have to worry about getting screwed, unless you do something illegal yourself, like past posting, or fixing.

And you can bet big money online. If you swing the odds, someone else will probably play the other side at good odds, setting you up for another bet at good odds.

Well its match fixing then isn't it? Very illegal and if caught you would probably never fight again. A journeyman would probably get 1/25 odds on the other guy beating them on average, so it just would not be worth the risk at all, considering it could be their job at stake.

You can ask a friend and share the purse. You can even spread this business all around the world if you have friends around the world - 11 winning about 7000$ each one is harder to notice that one winning 80K.
