Who else is pulling for Clottey?

Yes that's my point, why the ***** about boxing is not what it used to be and the endless discussion about "the soon-to-come death of boxing"?

We got two great fights on our hands that probably never would have happened in the first place if the casual boxing mob could choose, and chances are that we wouldn't get to see them after Floyd vs Pac either.

So best of luck to the grand master. If he can keep up a better workrate than against Cotto he'll have a chance.

Right now Boxing is surviving because it has 2, and only 2 mainstream mega-stars; Floyd and Manny! If they both lose, what you think Clottey and the near retirement Mosley will become mega stars??? No way. If they both lose, it will be HORRIBLE for boxing :deal

 

Arum should rot in hell for the way he's treated Clottey, how is he still livin in the hood in America and the slums in Ghana? This is clear exploitation of a fighter.

I agree. I think Clottey has paid his dues and deserves a big win. I really hope he pulls it off.

A lot of top-notch fighters are crafting their careers with this ducking and dodging ****, just so they can fight for the $20M payday. I don't have anything against guys making that much, but I think boxing as a whole is better served if, instead of a superfight every two years, we have 6 or 7 really dope-ass fights with the best fighting the best.


How much better would things be if two years ago we had...

and the list goes on.. And that's just from the 147 division..

We could have had a mini-superfight damn near every month, but instead we get a bunch of promoters holding their fighters back so they don't missout on the big payday.

 

Boxing needs the best to fight the best, and the way to make that happen has changed. Ideally the elite should be eager to fight each other,
but now money has all the pull in the business of boxing, so it's kind of ironic that the two biggest stars end up fighting very risky opponents who they are supposed to beat.
This is the two fight that came to fruition, and if Clottey and Mosley wins it could be good in some respects,
there are some interesting scenarios in the aftermath of such upsets, and again why is it that after a loss a fighter is finished etc.

 

In theory, you have a point. But let's realistically look at the fighters listed.

Shane - not far from retirement, just trying to rack in some last minute money.
Margo - Maybe if he ever gets his license back (ban was at least one year)
Cotto - Not sure what's left in the tank, possibly finished
Berto - We will see, was not impressed with his last couple of fights.
Judah - ha ha ha, he's now a stepping stone
Williams - We will see if he comes back to WW. I know its rumored, but nothing official yet.

That leaves us with not too many possibilities. I do think Clottey will be around fighting for some time though.

 

I'm talking about from 2007 or 2008 to the present. You had all of these fighters, plus Quintana, Cintron, and Berto to throw in for tune-ups and possible upsets, and you have a really decent rotation of guys who should have been fighting one another over the past hree years.
