the only common opponents at 140 are maussa and paulie. they both stopped maussa and hatton beat paulie much more desicively than cotto did. i think prime hatton would wear cotto down and stop him.
People really dont remember where these guys were at their respective points in 2004/5. Hatton was the better fighter all around and Cotto at 147 is a much better fighter than he was at 140. And this is coming from a Puerto Rican.
If its in 04/05 then Cotto still wins it by late T/KO. Now if we are talking about the extremely drained Cotto that fought Malignaggi in June 2006 then yeah Hatton has a great shot there. And Hatton was NEVER EVER the better all around fighter.
I think even the 140lb Cotto would beat Hatton, cotto was still plenty good when he kept his baring (Pinto, Bazan, Bailey)..... it doesnt matter to me what weight they fight at, 140 or 147, i think it goes from close tough fight for cotto at 140 in one he could possibly lose, to a fight he def wins at 147. I simply dont think Hatton has what it takes to beat Cotto, regardless of the weight. I think he always makes it a tough fight, and i wouldnt be totally shocked if he would win, but if i have to pick someone it would be Cotto due to his more accurate punching, better skills, stronger, bigger, Hattons tender face, and i think cotto would slice him up with his short crisp combos and also beat hatton to the punch throughout. Close fight that will see Hatton win more then his fair share, and having cotto back up a lot as well but i think Cotto pulls it out, just a slightly better fighter IMO.
Not that this logic I'm using means anything in a head to head match but against common opponents, Cotto has always done better than Hatton. Maussa gave Hatton all types of trouble before Hatton kayoed him but Cotto beat Maussa with ease, Cotto put way more hurt on Malignaggi than Hatton did and Cotto fared better against Pacquiao as well.
what fight did you watch to think ,maussa gave hatton "all kinds of trouble"? lol hatton won every round easily and then ko'd him, so hatton beat maussa just as easily. and maussa was a belt holder at that point coming off the biggest win of his career against harris. As far as paulie, cotto may have "put more hurt" on paulie, but hatton did a much better and desicive job of beating him. paulie was winning rounds off cotto and it was competitive, paulie was totally outclassed by hatton and then stopped. the hatton paulie fight wasn't close to being competitive. and as far as manny, yeah cotto fared slightly better but he was still totally outclassed and embarressed just the same. he just stayed on his feet for longer.
