If you watched the HBO telecast of that fight, every once in a while they would bring up an AOL poll about who the fans thought was winning the fight, and as the fight progressed but right up until the time of the stoppage there was 10% of the voters still believed that Trinidad won. Now the question is, does anyone on here want to fess up to being part of that 10%? We won't laugh at a blind person.
Hopkins will mess anyones plans up...... just not Jermaine Taylor... was that too much respect he gave him? what was it?...He just couldn't pour it on.
Yeah.... Mayweather fights JMM, and people forget his previous 39 fights and claim all he does is fight smaller fighters. Hopkins beats up a natural WW, and a lot of people consider it his best win. Go figure.
Hopkins did what he was suppose to do. KO the smaller guy, something featherfisted gayweater couldnt do. Not even cause he probably weighed 20+ lbs more than Marquez fight night.
Well JMM was a lighweight. Are you really surprised people noticed he never fought another 2 divisions up in the past?
People seem to forget that Tito moved up to JMW and killed that division. He unified titles and then came up to MW. He whoops Joppy who had 1 loss that was avenged. Joppy wasnt bad. Tito comes into the final as a heavy favorite over BHop and outweighed him at the weigh in by a lb and a half. There was no WW in that ring.
+1. I don't remember a whole lot of people commenting on Tito being a WW when the fight was set up. He was supposed to beat up on Hopkins. However, years after the fight there is a tendency towards revisionist history since Tito did in fact get annihilated by the greats at the higher weights (Hopkins, Wright, Jones, and not annihilation but was outboxed by ODLH)
Doesn't change that fact that Mayweather fought 39 other opponents while moving up five divisions. I don't why that seems to slip peopl'es memories.
Winning, is winning. Doesn't matter if its by KO or or a shutout decision, especially if the fight was a tune up. B-Hop is a HOF without question, but still he gets passes for fighting smaller guys, but Mayweather does it for 1 fight out of 40 and suddenly people act like thats all he's ever done. No Ricky Hatton was not smaller, he regularly weighed more than Floyd on fight night even though he fought 1 division lower.
Trinidad was a 3-1 favorite, having just destroyed the consensus #2 middleweight in the world. 15 of 20 "experts" polled in The Ring picked him to beat Hopkins. Jesus ****ing Christ, is it that hard to know a little bit about the ancient era of the early 2000s? Revisionist history is so ridiculous.
