Ring Magazine writer Doug Fisher wrote in his mailbag today that it's possible for Pacquaio to be dropped from the top spot even if he beats Clottey. He claims that if Manny is merely solid against Clottey, then the winner of Mayweather/Mosley(assuming it's a clear decision) may overtake Manny. Personally, I believe the top guy should only lose his spot if he retires, loses, or gets a controversial win. However, Roy Jones Jr. once lost the top spot without losing. This scenario is pretty interesting because you have the no.2 and no.3 guys fighting eachother. Not only that, but the no.2 guy was the no.1 guy, and only lost his spot because of retirement. So, should the winner of the Mayweather/Mosley fight overtake Pacquiao? Let's assume that there is a clear cut winner in that fight and Pac beats Clottey by decision.

Compare Floyds last......say 5 fights to Pacs.

    There you go.

    Interesting take

Pac's last 5(including Clottey); Clottey, Cotto, Hatton, Hoya, Diaz

Floyd's last 5(lncluding Mosley); Mosley, Marquez, Hatton, Hoya, Baldomir

Mosley is better than Clottey. Marquez is better than Cotto, but Marquez came up two weight classes so Cotto gets the edge. The version of Hatton that Floyd faced is better than the one Manny faced. Ditto for Hoya. I would rank Baldo ahead of Diaz as well.

It is a unique situation i think. Mayweather retired and Pac got the crown, and to this point has done more than enough to keep it.

But I think an impressive win over Mosley by the very guy that passed the crown over to Pac, could very well get it back, especially if Pac is not impressive against Clottey.

PAc was never pfp the best fighter in the world. The only people who list him above Floyd are people who love aggressive fighters. These 3 reasons are why PAc could never be ranked above Floyd until Pac beats Floyd:

That's what Fisher was getting at. And if look at their last 5 opponents(including their upcomming fights), it's pretty close. Don't forget about Mosley either. He would have two straight wins against top 10 p4p fighters.

Well, who does The Ring want to have it? One of their guys or someone else?

Honestly I would give it to Floyd, if he is impressive against Mosley and Pac struggles against Clottey.

But at the same time people will give you the argument that Mosley is past it.
