People can do the sport a favor and embrace the greatness in front of them. I am so sick and tired of people criticizing fighters for making certain decisions regarding their careers and not thinking about the other variables effecting their decision making process. Just shut the hell up and enjoy the fruits that the great boxing tree yields. You might find that the sport is a lot more fulfilling if you try to enjoy what it has to offer instead of complaining about it all of the time. But, I guess that might be an unrealistic expectation for certain people.
I got an oppenent that would not only get the american fan's attention, but could easily be hyped up. Rahman/Vitali it was the one fight Vitali backed down from. Rahman's still a name in the states, and is a not only a more known oppenent than Solsonwski, but he's more proven.
He's only had 3 fights and is the Champ, pretty good going. Plus Vitali wanted to fight the guy Haye just beat.
Peter: lost twice, once debatable Ruiz: no contest Holyfied: what was that, ****ing 7 years ago?? Oquendo: lost Rahman: Lost once, no contest second Guinn: who cares Offical Record: 3 wins, 2 loses, 1 draw, 1 no contest Acutal record: 2 wins (holy, guinn, MAYBE peter), 4 loses (peter x2, oquendo, rahman 1st), 1 no contest He might have taken the first peter fight. i can freely admit that Toney is an atg supermiddle...at heavyweight he ranks somewhere around the top 500 all time
It's a fight a lot of people have wanted to see long before Haye entered the picture...also, Vitali knows he could defeat Valuev in a more exciting and convincing fashion...further stoking the demand for a Haye/Klitschko match-up.
Since expectations are so low i have a feeling Sosnowski will surpass them. Anyone who's watched this guy fight will realize a) his skills are not top class, his lack of amateur experience does show b) he has lots of heart, is busy and works hard. I have a feeling Sosnowski may look a bit better than Vitali's past few opponents.
Tua; an old fighter who hasn't done anything to earn a shot at the title in years, plus it would be a complete mis-match Haye; fighting Ruiz, already avoided Vitali once. This is the fight Vitali wants Toney; insignificant in the division for years now, and contracted to MMA. Vitali may aswell fight Mike Tyson or Roy Jones Valuev; turned down a shot at the title and millions of Euros. Who the hell does that? Holyfield; already suspected brain damage. Inactive for a long time and only a sadist would want to see him fight a Klitschko at this stage Sosnowski is not on Vitali's level, but at least he is an active fighter in his prime, holds the euro belt and was willing to fight for a world title.
So by your logic. So someone feeds you ****, you should be happy and eat it correct? That would be like your boss telling you we got a great job for you to work on, and then next week he changes his mind and he wants you to clean the toliets. I feel thats what Vitali is doing to his fans. Haye/Vitali, fans were creaming there pants to see this fight. I myself was excited. Vitali and Haye can't come to terms on a contract. Then we hear Vitali/Valuev, which is also a pretty good fight. Now that isn't going to happen. So now we have Vitali fighting a guy 80% has never even seen fight before. A no name oppenent for a belt. I'm not happy, and as you could see by the posts, most aren't.
Really? Rahman was beaten by Wlad and .... Toney two years ago, he is inactive since then, sure known name but you think anybody would pay more money in US to see Rahman-Vitaly than Sosnowsky-Vitaly in Germany? The only 'legitimate' way to put Rahman in front of Sosnowski is that the best Rahman's win in the last 5 (!!!) years is Zuri Lawrence .. the same guy who outpointed Sosnowski
Toney is completely shot. If he were serious with his training he would now fight at LHW or CW. He doesnt belong to HWs. Dont forget that this fight is in Europe and this unkown, uncharismatic, unmarketable Polish fighter will sell better there than most of your American top heavies.
Haye hasn't shown anything at HW. He has squandered gift oppurtinities to be the Champ and laid a stinker against one of the worst belt holders in boxing history, marginally defeating him. His comp so far has been a joke. Far, far, far below Vitali and Wlad.
Thats the thing, the fight would still take place in Germany, but if he fought Rahman at leat it would be on tv. I do believe HBO would pick it up, if both men decided to hype it up a bit. If you remember, all of 05 Vitali was supposed to fight Rahman, but backed out four times because of injuries. Now the fight that never happend, can now take place.
Rahman. C'mon give me a break. He's a shell of what he was. And what he was, wasn't that great to begin with.
We all know that, but he's still a bigger draw than who Vitali plans to fight. Besides, Rahman has a big enough name and history with Vitali to get this fight on HBO.
Bigger draw in the US perhaps, where people no longer support their fighters to begin with. Trust me, the business optics had a lot to do with Vitali selecting Sosnowski. Germany has lots of Poles plus they will have TV bids from places like Poland, UK etc. The world does not revolve around the US you know.
