He was starting to look quite weight drained towards the end. Could he have picked up a welter title if he had moved up to 147 or do too many of his advantages lie at JWW? Who would have been a good match for him at 147 at that time in the early 2000's? :think

Tszyu was a master boxer. He could've beaten Spinks, Judah and even Mayweather who were champs. He would've been a slight underdog against Forrest, Mosley, De La Hoya due to their size advantage.

    You're joking right??

No disrespect to Tszyu, but he absolutely would not defeat any of the top Welters.

He could have beaten Spinks Id say for sure and likely Judah again but I dont expect an easy knockout early on. Mayweather at that point? I dont think so, no way. And Mayweather wasnt at 147 yet when Hatton beat Kostya. Where was he?... still at 135 or was he at 140 then?

i agree, but a fight with Zab at 147 still would have been quite dangerous... Mayweather would whoop Tszyu at 147 IMO and so would SSM and DLH. But yeah, a fight with Spinks could have been interesting, or very very boring haha

He'd beat most at 147lbs but not the top 3-4 due to either size advantage or speed.

That's why he went after Gatti when moved to 140 because he was sure he would whoop Tszyu. Skillwise Tszyu is better than anyone Jr. has ever faced.

Perhaps it was because Gatti and Floyd were both with HBO, while Tszyu was with Showtime? Floyd mentioned Tyzsu in a post fight interview as a possible opponent, but said it would be tough because they were contracted to different network. Gatti also had the WBC belt which Floyd always pursues. He has always gone straight for the WBC belt in every new weight-class.

How long have you been following boxing? When Mayweather was campaigning at 140, Tszyu was either injured, contracted to fight Hatton or unofficially retired. He never really a chance to make a fight with Tszyu, so claiming that he chose Gatti to avoid him is ridiculous.

Ignoring the revisionist history that has become conventional wisdom, Gatti was actually the best choice for Mayweather at the time. Cotto was green, Hatton turned him down twice at that weight and Tszyu wasn't active. Who else was there? Harris? Witter? Gimme a break.

He would have spanked Sharmba Mitchell at 147 for sure :yep

Tszyu had Forrest's number from back in their am days, so I think he would have handled Forrest quite easily at 147.

He would have beaten Spinks, Judah, Gatti, Baldomir, Margarito, Harris at 147 too.

Not so sure about DLH and Mosley at 147, we never got to see Tszyu at 147 so I don't know how his power and punch resistance would have fared at that weight against these guys.

:nono I think Tszyu would be an underdog in this fight due to the huge size advantage of Forrest. To have a better chance to win against bigger WWs like Oscar or Forrest Tszyu would have to roll back the years and employ the defense and style of his amatuer days. IMO his style devolved because of his strenght at JWW.
