If Tszyu had moved to 147 after the Hatton fight?

Between the time that Mayweather moved up to 140 and the time he left 140, a period of a year and a half, Tyzsu had two fights. The second of those two was Hatton, and he never fought again after that. That's pretty inactive.

Likewise Hatton DID turn Floyd down, as did Cotto. By the time they were ready he was up at 147.

How many fights did Tszyu and Floyd have on their contracts with HBO and Showtime?

Right. Tszyu would have beaten every welterweight that Floyd faced.

Floyd? Tszyu probably too old and past it by then, and DLH etc may, may have been too big.

Apart from that, he's a pretty good chance against everyone IMO.

I don't think he'd win a belt. Moving up in weight at the tail end of your career isn't always the best move.

That's rich coming from an ignoramus who has clearly has no clue about what was going on at 140 during the time period in question. When Mayweather first moved to Junior Welter, Tzsyu was injured. Tzsyu's return fight was the Mitchell bout so that he could retain his IBF title as Mitchell was the interim champ at the time. After Mitchell, Tszyu opted to fight Hatton. And after Hatton, he was done. Facts are facts, Mayweather never really had a chance to set up a fight with Tszyu when they were both at 140, so these allegations that he ducked him are ridiculous.

You have discovered America . I have followed Tszyu's career since the Seoul Olympics where he was unlucky not to win a medal.

I never said he ducked him. Gatti was an easy win for a big payday. I remember Tszyu saying at the time that he doesn't want to fight Hatton but wants fights with Mayweather and Gatti but there are problems making those fights at the time.

Kostya was 35 and past it.Most on board here are thinking of a more prime Tszyu.

I love Tszyu ... but he was at the end before or going into the Hatton fight. His own trainer said publicly after the second Mitchell fight it was the right time to retire.

So I don't think he wouldn't have been successful at 147 around this time in his career.

He did campaign for a fight with Spinks a little bit earlier ... I remember he even listed Spinks as most likely next opponent on his website for a while. Just fell through.

    Casamayor is correct.

Tszyu approached Gatti ... Gatti's management said a straight out no chance (tszyu too dangerous and without the big money name) ... Mayweather also made Tszyu an offer ... but HBO/Showtime could not agree on terms.

Spinks was almost signed for a fight at 147 but money was an issue, Hatton became almost by default the most profitable and available opponent.

he retired at the right time. i don't think his body would carry 147 very well.

    As succinct as ever Lance.

KT was pretty much done at the end of his welter career.

The injuries took their toll - Achilies and the shoulder reconstruction wouldn't have helped him at 147 either.

Would have liked to see how a pro rematch with Vernon Forrest turned out.

Tszyu had two fights left on his contract before signing the Hatton fight. He retired after that ... with contractually one fight left.
