So was Vasquez (the man who beat Winky).

    And Pea outboxed him.

Personally i class Winky in a totally different category to Vasquez tho it was still a great win considering.

it such a shame because these are two great fighters with great talent i can just see a incredably boring fight.

i think whitaker would win because after the first two largic round winky will begin to stalk with his good defense and southpaw jab and pernell will make him miss and jab the tip of wrights nose, which is about the only scoring area that you can really hit wright at because of his very tight earmuff defense (you cant even hit wright with body shots! his arms cover his entire rib cage!)

is see pernell winning a close and very very boring decision.

How can Winky be a different category to Vasquez when Vasquez knocked Winky down 7 times and won pretty much every round against him?

Winky was green when he lost against Vasquez. I say Winky defeats Pernell by a boring UD at 154.

Besides vasquez, who else has whitaker beat that around winky's size? I mean mcgirt is a natural 140, chavez was a natural superfeatherweight. Winky and Terry Norris would thoroughly dominate pernell at 154 by outboxing the smaller fighter.

Vasquez is a different style match up. Winky looks to be a better fighter now than he did in the late 90's, the loss to Vasquez was in the earlier 90's. Winky has improved a lot since then.

With Whitaker being a southpaw, he would not have the same problem with his jab lining up properly that orthodox fighters have. Whitaker would not make the same mistake Mosley made, it was not in his nature. Shane sometimes tries to out athlete the people he fights, instead of beating them with teqhnique.

I think that Wright, at his peak, is a smart fighter. He is not a booming puncher, but he is strong in his division. Look at how Mosley looked against Wright. Mosley is no Tommy Hearns at welterweight, but he is a strong puncher there.

The problem for Whitaker is that his punches may not look hard enough to compete with Wright, if Wright is busy. I like Whitaker's style against Wright's, but the impact of their punches could tell the tale.

I'll say Whitaker by decision, but I won't be surprised if it were to go the other way.

I had him losing the de la hoya fight, but thats a completely different matter. IMO, whitaker above 135 would lose to most ATG and i will stick with that line of thinking. At 135, he would beat everybody, it's his invincible weight class. However, i would have trinidad beating him everytime at 147 and i think aaron pryor would kick his ass everytime they fight at 140. Winky would **** kick pernell and make a fool of him, the height, reach and overall size is too much for the puny whitaker.

He barely beat buddy mcgirt, he barely beat wilfredo rivera(some think he lost this fight), he was getting **** kicked by hurtado. Yeah, the welterweight version of pernell wasn't that great.

If you're going to factor in Winky's loss to Vasquez then it's only fair to factor in Pernell's loss to Tito... Winky was that green.
