This content is protected While the possibility existed that Foreman-Cotto could wind up on a Top Rank PPV, Bob Arum stated today that all issues with HBO concerning the fight have been resolved. So the bout will be available on regular HBO. He went on to add that the first press conference to announce the fight will be March 22nd in Tampa, Florida from the Yankees spring training camp, followed by a second press conference at Yankee Stadium in early April. He also mentioned that JuanMa will not be part of the card, and instead will defend his title on July 10th. Source : Primera Hora
Nope. Last I heard Orlando Cuellar was the frontrunner, but Dirt McGirt had also been contacted. God forbid he ends up with ol' Buddy. :-(
Good to see this won't be on ppv, it clearly is not a ppv headlining fight. I read that Anthony Peterson vs the winner of Soto-Diaz could be on the undercard. Peterson-Soto would be a very good fight actually better than the Cotto-Foreman fight.
This was the undercard Top Rank originally had in mind... _________________ Anthony Peterson vs. Humberto Soto/David Diaz winner Vanes Martirosyan vs. Pawel Wolak Fernando Montiel vs. Eric Morel Winky Wright vs. TBA _________________ But I guess you can scatch Montiel-Morel since Hot Pants is probably going to end up fighting Hasegawa. Put Winky in with a live body and Peterson vs. the Soto-Diaz winner and it'll make for a pretty decent HBO triple-header.
buddy isn't all that bad but cuellar is good, i've been doing some research on him and the guy is a pretty good coach, he's made MANY amateur champions and trains some very good pros.
I just read another article stating that Cotto will be in Dallas this week meeting Arum and McGirt may indeed now be the front runner to land the job.
Only two names I heard mentioned in articles for certain, were Cuellar and McGirt. Though I remember hearing somewhere that Dan Birmingham was also in the running. Dan would be a good fit since he's a decent trainer and based in Tampa/St. Pete, where Cotto has held camp recently.
