why does boxing historian Bert Sugar do interviews and programmes with an unlit cigar in his hand/mouth the whole time?

it's hard to take him and his views seriously when he's doin that.

Bert Sugar is full of ****. Half of his boxing anecdotes turn out to be old wives tales. I've personally taken a few of his stories as gospel only to later hear the actual fighters say the story never happened.

It's hard to take him and his views seriously when he ranks Jack Dempsey as one of the Top 5 P4P fighters OAT.

no offense, but when insulting and discrediting Bert, do not forget the fact that he has more credibility in his little finger than every single esb poster combined, im just saying. I don't rate Dempsey either, but he most definatley knows alot more **** than we do.

Well, I think it's best NOT to take Bert seriously. Don't get me wrong, a lot of people can't stand him, but I think he's a load of fun and like him. But I like him the way I like a lot of my friends...I know they're full of **** and enjoy them. I wouldn't enjoy them if I didn't know they were full of ****.

    Well, is he right?

He probably has a shitload of factual knowledge, but that doesn't stop his analysis being thoroughly off the rails.

I hold an unlit cigar whilst posting on ESB? And of course my posts are always top quality and insightful. If you saw me pointlessly holding this cigar whilst typing your opinion on my posts would change, despite them being identical. Lesson here? Dont judge a book by its cover

Your ramblings make no ****ing sense.

I'm not dissing him because he holds a cigar. It's quite entertaining, actually. I'm criticising his warped opinions.

Bert Sugar's views on boxers and how he rates them, may not necessarily coincide with the beliefs of his younger counterparts. Some of his facts may be a tad inaccurate at times as well.. He is however, a very knowledgable historian, and I have enjoyed listening to his commentary as well as reading some of his work.. He can also come across as being a bit over opinionated on certain issues, but one can't deny that the man has character.. The cigar and top hat image doesn't bother me a bit. Boxing personalities today, lack.....Well, personality, in my opinion.. The sport will most likely miss him once he's gone.

The guy is great, don't give two shits what others think or say.

Though, he has become almost like a caricature of himself... hasn't he.

    Still entertaining and funny.

THIS. Bert once said that Mike Tyson punched a hole in the wall before the Spinks fight and almost hit Spinks in the chin.:patsch
The sad part is, he may know a lot of true stories, but none can be taken seriously. He has been officially labled "Full of ****".
