Keys to a Clottey win?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by LordSharpshire, Mar 11, 2010.

  1. Thought I'd throw out a few thoughts then you guys can pounce.:D

Clottey needs to counter when Manny throws his 1st or 2nd punch. If he waits for the 4th or 5th it'll be too late. He also needs to be assertive once Manny throws a combination and then backs out. What I mean by that is, once Manny gets back out, he tends to bounce, and that's a perfect time to initiate an attack. Manny still has a bad habit of bouncing up and down right in front of his opponent and if Clottey can assert himself enough to attack during these moments, he can have success.

Use his size advantage & push Manny backwards, Don't allow him to dart in/out.
Keep that jab pumping & stay consistant from start to finish, Don't gas "this is it".
(More than likley Clottey's last shot)

  3. Yeah, I'd like him to bully Manny if at all possible. Even if he's literally just pushing him backwards. Another thing I meant to mention: If Clottey does counter on Manny's 1st or 2nd punch, it doesn't really matter if it connects or not because the point is to stop Manny's momentum from completing a 5-6 punch combo. So, if Clottey is able to disrupt Manny's offense in that way, that bodes quite well for him.

It won't be his last shot, I don't think. I think he'll move right up to 154, win, lose or draw and get a shot there.

As in most Clottey fights, the key is HE NEEDS TO THROW SOME FREAKIN' PUNCHES

But can he? He's not that good of a counter puncher like JMM did to Pac.

Jab Jab Jab. The Jab does disrupt Manny and When Cotto used it he looked like he could win the fight with that alone.
During exchanges throw that straight right. I believe Clotteys right is pretty powerful and could send Pac down if connected at the right time.
Do not be stingy with your punches. But then again dont open up too much or he will go down. He needs to use effective aggression. Block Pacs shots then come forward at him after that. In the clinches rough him up. Manny is too nice and if you rough him up he can be taken out of his gamplan.
If for some reason they start fighting on the inside throw the right uppercut and its all over for Pac then. I dont think Pac can take those uppercuts on the inside.

Keep Pac at the end of the jab
    Don't go headhunting
Time a counter early in his combos here and there, preferably with a lead right
    Don't take any rounds off
Make the fight butt ugly - clinching, headbutts, etc.

And then on top of everything, hope that Pacquiao overtrained and isn't 100% for the fight.

    I think he needs to

Keep the jab going to disrupt Manny
Try to keep him (manny) on the back foot and dont let him keep get away with his in out style
Dont let manny fight at his pace
Win early rounds clearly as he will prob slow down by round 8
    Counter punch

Frankly i see a Pac man by late KO or wide UD but i really want clottey to win this one! I just cant see it happening.
