I think paul appelby is still learning the pro game he was a bit young when his success happened and if terry mac can get him fighting fit then he has a chance as he has got ability no doubt about it . my only concern is his time out and his past style was no good . i agree with billy at this stage ricky burns is to much for him but he does have age on his side and hopefully when both have good titles they can get it on

gomez was never past his best against arthur gomez terrified
arthur before the fight started when he walked over to arthurs
corner the fight was won there-but he was shop worn against
burns- and when the last assault came he had nothing left

When Tyson flattened Spinks in a minute, you can say he won the fight before it even started. When Gomez went through a 5 round war with Arthur, you cannot say he won the fight just because he got to Arthur.

when he went over to alex he looked like a rabbit caught in head lights
he did give a good account of himself but that to me was a defining moment

Appleby is ok but yet to prove anything more then a kid who got man strength very early in his career. Beating a terribly out of sorts John simpson and a shot Esham Pickering hardly makes him a superstar. I don't particuarly rate him just yet... lets see what happens.

Yet to prove anything? He's the youngest British Champion in Scottish boxing History and beat a good champion in John Simpson. Lets just not say that Simpson was "out of sorts" because he got beaten by a 20 year old.

To this date, the best name on Ricky Burns's record is Graham Earl and the best on Appleby's is Simpson. Earl is the better of the two IMO but Applyby won the title with his.

Gomez was at his best in that fight, he had been off the sniff for three weeks.

mark my words mik1000 john simpson will acheive more than earl at the end of his career, john was poor against paul no excuses but since hes been in a pro gym the improvements there for all to see, john would beat paul now by stoppage imo.

Aye I would agree with you that Simpson will have done more than Earl at the end of his career.
It's easy to say that Simspon was poor against Paul and just write off what was a great victory for such a young boy. I'd like to see Appleby get to feather so they can get it on again.

Simpson was out of sorts, and still Appleby only just nicked it... lets be honest that was not a 100% Simpson in there, and esham pickering is shot to pieces. Appleby was blasted by Lindsey who would start evens with Simpson. Appleby will not go on to do anything else unless the division emptys out again. He's ok but nothing special. As for him been the next Alex Arthur... total bollocks- can't see him ever been anywhere near as good as that. IMO of course pal.

Appleby beat pickering widely on points, he didn't look great that night but it's not as if he just nicked a decision to hold on the title.
What do you base your judgement of "that not being a 100 percent Simpson in there?". The fact that he got beat off a 20 year old?

i will tell you, simpson got beat by one point i think on two judges cards and there was a knock down that was never a knock down that made it a 10-8 which would have made john the winner, all the same no excuses he never performed on the night but things have changed drastically for john since as you have witnessed in his last few fights and hes still getting better, watch out all FW!
