Hopkins schooling Pavlik was a bigger shock to me than seeing manny beat oscar.

    Kelly needs to stfu.

This is a dangerous fight for Pavlik. Martinez is no joke. Pavlik may wind up getting embarresed, or he may wind up knocking Martinez out. If he loses though, I don't even think his fans are going to want to hear his excuses. Props to both fighters. These are the type of fights the sport needs.

Hopkins first three title defences included a 20-6-1 fireman who nearly took him the distance, a Lightweight journeyman at best, and a fringe contender who never fought again post-Hopkins. Again, the double standards are plain.

Hopkins also was tremendously underexposed. Compare his paydays back then to what Pavlik is getting now to fight bums.

Yeah me two, so that when he gets humiliated once more, he can finally STFU.

But Pavlik will never go to 168 to challenge the big boys, he knows what would happen if does that.

Here we go again. The only 'legacy' Joe Calzaghe left was convincing people that Kelly needs to fight at 168. Tell me again what happened when Kelly took Ole Joe up on that offer? :think

He has been criticized in the past for not saying more. Six of one, half dozen of the other?

He got exposed and embarrassed, I know, that's why I posted that.

And? How can there be a double standard? Hopkins didn't have a name recognition, and therefore didn't bring any money to the table when he first got his belt. Pavlik is the biggest name at MW and can fight pretty much whover he wants between 154 and 168. Pavlik is in the spotlight much more so than Hopkins was during his early reign. I understand that Pavlik can't fight a big name everytime out, but you have to expect to him to receive more criticism than a guy that no one really knows.

The more I hear Pavlik talk, the less I like him. He always seems to be complaining about something and has a bit of a chip on his shoulder these days.

I really didn't like it when he tried to downplay the Super 6, saying the guys were killing each other for peanuts while he would fight the winner on HBO for big money. What kind of attitude is that for a fighter who's supposed to be a man of the people/working class hero?

As it is, I still favour him to beat Martinez and Williams. I actually think he'll ko Williams if the fight ever happens.

The question was about Ole Joe. So is that why you want him to move up? Fight bigger guys so he will lose because no one in HIS weight class can do that for you? :-(

I am fan of Kelly too, but you don't really think he could have beat Calzaghe do you?

My point was that in all sports the throw disproportionate money at some people. HBO practically disowned him after Hopkins. Williams was really going to be his first fight back after that. That is the real reason he was pushing for that fight. Handled poorly? Not hard to make that call after the fact but hindsight is usually 20/20, except on ESB. :D
