He has that good right hand that looks pretty powerfull to me and he has to throw that one or else. Plus that underrated forehead....:yep

Obviously Manny's got a bit more power, is that why you say this? Or do you think he can take a punch better than Clottey as well?

I know how I would fight Pac if I was Clottey :

I would try to be cutting down the ring constantly moving to Pacquiao's right hand side with a tight guard up front and maybe a little more towards the left side of the face. Moving almost more laterally than forward making sure that if Pac is gonna turn me he is gonna turn me to my right. If he tries to duck to my left then wait to block the first punch and then offset him with a quick jab or a quck left hook if he's too low... if it connects then follow up with another one and then a right hand and a left to the ribs if it doesn't connect step in with a high guard and make body contact. If he clinches lean on him and walk him to the ropes. If he is hesitating too much then drop a quick lead right on him and get back into the shell right away or flick out the left either hook or jab but only to set up a follow up right he will either get touched by the right or duck under it at which point lean on him and walk him to the ropes. If he starts turning to my right and stays in range thats when I let the machine go use a right hook or a quick jab to interrupt his movement then big combinations cause I think with Clottey's arsenal I would win those flurries when Pac is moving to my right. All the while between exchanges staying on the front foot cutting down the ring with my guard tight and my left ready to snap if he comes in or my right ready to snap if he waits too long.

    thats my strategy.

Clottey does have some tools necessary to beat Pac:
    1. good defense
    2. great chin
    3. doesn't throw wide punches
    4. quick release

he has one chance, knock pac out. Other than throwing with bad intentions he has no chance.

Manny is a combination puncher. Fighting toe to toe is deadly. I think we will know in the first round who will win the fight. Also im not sure how 'granite' clottey's jaw is and it will be tested on the night. The reason i say this is because of the cotto fight. Now cotto fought mosley, margarito and clottey at WW. None of those guys dropped him like pacquiao from single shots. Mosley has KO power at 147 yet could not knock down cotto. Clottey has decent power, again cotto never looked hurt. Margarito just plain beat cotto down but didnt knock him down convincingly with power.

Manny had cotto on very wobbly legs with the second knockdown. What if clottey's chin isnt good enough and he is visibly rocked early. I dont know how he would cope with that? Also pacquiao will be facing a fighter with much better athleticism than he has for a while. Clottey has fast hands and throws with intent and is a good combination puncher. How will he react to the speed? All in all this should be a great fight, although if it wasnt for the size advantage enjoyed by clottey, it wouldnt even be competitive.

Yeah, I guess I overlooked the combo factor and you're of course right, that's is Manny's forte. I'm not as worried about Clottey's chin early on because he's got a good defense. However he does have a high guard, so if Manny takes it to his body early and often ... then yeah, we could see Clottey with some issues later in the fight.

I don't know that Clottey necessarily has one punch KO power on someone with a decent chin.

  13. Excellent post. Thanks.:good I have a strange feeling that Clotty is going to have success with a check-hook of sorts in this fight. I dunno...just a feeling.

Hope Manny does not show up.

Clottey has no chance in this fight, none. I will happily eat crow if this fight is even remotely competitive.

  15. Manny dropped Cotto because of his speed, combo punching, and awkward angles. It's not like Manny just walked up to Cotto and blasted him like Duran did Davey Moore. Manny KD'd Cotto, but it wasn't because of sheer power alone. The deadliest punches are the ones not seen coming. And Cotto didn't see them coming.
