I'm of course not speaking head-to-head since they're of different size and not talking about achievements either.

Just simply, P4P, at their best, who was the superior fighter?

good question. I say Cotto p4p.

I'm using Cotto from the Mosley fight and Vargas from the Quartey fight.

    Its close

if we forget about p4p then Vargas beats Cotto easy. I probably should have voted equal, but if we do like when there's a close round and you give it to the guy who won it by a hair, its Cotto.

Since Vargas might have been on the Roids pre-DLH, I'm going Cotto.

  5. On pure boxing ability, it's Vargas and it's not even close. But, Miguel has the better wins I'd say. I'd say their best wins are comparable though.

    It's a good question.

Vargas by a land slide ... there was never questions about Vargas' chin ... he never fought flat footed and was a waaay better boxer than Cotto will ever be. Unlike Cotto, Vargas is a two handed fighter. Youngest fighter to win a title in the history of the 154 division.

Vargas never really had a true prime. He was beaten to a pulp before he could even reach his peak years as a fighter... so I'm going with Cotto on this one. Overall, I'd say he accumulated a better resume than Vargas was able to.

Though I do think Vargas has better pure ability and had he not met Triinidad so early in his career he might've eventually amounted to more than Cotto did.

they were equal the differance was cotto brought along slower an able to establish himself more gradual whlie the youngest jrm champ thrown to wolves aka tito trinadad to soon rather than some easier confident building defense first but at each best it is toss up

Uhh, yes there was. He was down atleast 10 times in his career and was stopped 3 times. 1 more than Cotto ...who was never even conclusively knocked out during his career.
The ****? Cotto has a great straight right hand in his arsenal and can deliver a mean right hook to the body when he chooses to.

How long have you been following this sport? 6 months?! ****! You know nothing! :patsch

Very tough to say, so I'm not going to vote here. One thing I will say that we can all probably agree with is that Vargas was a way better inside fighter and Cotto was the better short range puncher.

Nice thread. Honestly after thinking it through, I think Cotto was able to develop into his peak and we saw him at his very best and at his worse. Vargas was never able to display what he could have done with his abilities because he was never able to display that raw power and talent past the Tito fight. So I would have to say Cotto.

That's only because Vargas fought way beyond his prime. Cotto was getting knocked around when he was suppose to be in his prime. Winky is also a better win than Mosely IMO. Winky was prime whereas Mosley's best days were behind him with he fought Cotto.

I think it's Vargas and by a good margin.

Cotto resume of wins is deeper than Vargas, but Vargas win over Winky is better than Cotto best win being the Mosley fight and Vargas win over Quartey is on par with Cotto's win over Mosley, but like I said Cotto has more depth to his resume due to circumstances. But its many ways to look at it, so overall I'm still undecided lol.
