I just want to clear up my above post. Of course I don't really consider the welters a bunch of cowards but since there's more money in that division there's more reason to act like a bunch of bitches about things. The PEDs thing is an example, it seems to me Clottey is already setting up an excuse "just in case." I have a lot of respect for Clottey, really hope the guy gets his day in the sun cuz he deserves it, but it pisses me off that he's slandering too "just in case."
before you get pissed off, you should listen to what he really said, and the contexr in which he said it. He clearly never accused him of anything illegal, he saud he got his power from some spiritual source. Don't get caught up in the hype.
Clottey is making no excuse,i dont see Pac kncking out clottey, style makes fight and Clottey have the style to withstand Pac,believe it or not before the Pac/Cotto fight i told my buddies how the fight will go,i knew right from Cotto's early carrer that he doesnt like to get hit in the head i have seen a lot of fights where he wobbled terribly because he got hit on the head for example,a fight against Demarcus Corley who could have been the first guy to beat Cotto if he had a good accuracy but he blew it. I told my friends that the fight is a KO because Cotto doesnt like to get hit in the head and Pacquiao happens to be a head hunter with a terrible power attached, but Clottey have a very strong defence where it would be very hard for Pacman to break thru, fellow fight fans we are less than 48hrs to the fight,WE SHALL SEE!!!
It is not road to Dallas it is on "clottey image piece" check it on your HBO on demand and listen to Clottey saying the way Pac is beating the guys is unbelievable that if he beat him like that he would ask Pac to give him what he is using.
Why do some fighters have a rematch clause on their agreement? because the champ feels if the challenger BEATS him he ought to get a chance to redeem himself,Boxing can go either way so what are you talking about? It is not 100% certain for either fighter.
I get that part about unseen punches being really effective. Now what about the damages to Cotto's face? Nobody has ever done that to him with the exception of a likely cheating Margarito. Oscar's face? Even a roided Vargas couldn't do that to him. What about Pac's ability to easily shake off Cotto's shots? Marquez doesn't punch as hard as Cotto yet was able to rock Pac with a few shots. It's not so much his ability to carry his power and speed to higher weight classes that seems suspicious. It's his unbelievable win streak that involves brutalizing solid competitors. A prime Mike Tyson could've knocked out 100 straight tomato cans, I'm sure. But line up 3 or 4 great fighters for him and he's going to struggle with at least one of them. Not the case with Pac. Hmm...
My opinion is if Pacquiao was on something he would have ben able to drop DLH, he hit him enough didnt he? DLH pulled himself out just before the 9th, so he was able to take nearly half an hour of sheer brutality, and not go down once? Against Cotto he caught the guy with an uppercut he didnt see coming and the first kd was a balance issue for Cotto. He then hit im constantly but couldnt stop him until the referee finally stepped in in the 12 round! So despite his "suspicious levels of strength" he couldnt physically end DLH or Cotto, the ref and corner's did. Against Hatton, the punch the left he caught Hatton with was perfect, and no light welter could have stood up to it. He has undoubtedly carried his speed and volume up to welter, but power wise he's no Mosley.
The damage to Cotto's face was the result of constant backtracking, allowing Pacquiao to come on to him for 8 straight rounds. The damage to Oscar's face came about as a result of 8 rounds of being unable to deal with Pacquiao's speed. Pacquiao stated after the Cotto bout, that Cotto's punches hurt, but he felt he had to test his punch resistance at the weight. And to be honest, although Cotto tested him early, he didnt land any serious body shots or powerful hooks. Pacquiao did struggle with Cotto. Up to the fourth round. Then Cotto backpedalled and made it look a lot easier for Pacquiao. Hatton was also starting to come back into the fight in the 2nd round, before Pacquiao caught him cold. As for DLH, no quality welter would have had problems with him that night, he couldnt avoid punches!
Vargas was on roids and didn't knock DLH down. That said, you can't really base your opinion on one knock down or lack thereof. As for the Cotto fight, it should've been stopped in the 9th. The second knockdown on Cotto was not a flash knockdown. Cotto was really hurt. Judah landed a quick shot which had Cotto hurt but never knocked him down like Pac did. Have you seen Cotto's face after the fight? He had to be taken to a hospital for extensive check ups. David Diaz and Ricky Hatton looked like they could've died in the ring when Pac knocked them out. Another thing I'd like to add is PEDs doesn't necessarily give a fighter just power. It also provides long lasting stamina. Mosley used PEDs to defeat Oscar and there were no knockdowns in their fight.
You're really reaching with the struggling part though. Pac might've lost a few rounds against Cotto but I wouldn't call it a struggle when you look at the grand scheme of things. No punch landed on you is going to feel good. Pac isn't going to denigrate Cotto in public by stating his punches had no effect on him whatsoever. He's going to give Cotto some credit especially when they are/were friends. I highly doubt he was faking his pain. You can automatically tell by a fighter's facial reaction.
Because chin enhancing peds are available, right? Also Mosley was on roids and stated himself that they were detrimental, rather than helpful to his boxing successes as he said it made him feel sluggish. Thirdly, the "brutalizing" is a little exaggerated- DLH simply wasn't fighting back after the first few rounds, Hatton got hit by a clean punch while he wasn't expecting it, and Cotto was fighting fire with fire and got burned.
There is alot of talk about the the punches Pac absorb from Cotto vs the punches he that shook him from JMM. Most of the power shots that Cotto threw where on a Pac that was in a defensive stance, gloves up high and in tight, body clenched and rolling with the punches. On the other hand, JMM punches where landed on Pac while he was coming forward on the attack, naturally, those would cause a fighter to be off balance. Like stated above, the punch you don't see coming is the punch that hurts. When your throwing a bomb then get smacked with one vs arms up and in ready to take the bomb, you will get two different reactions to said bomb
