Would you ask my bollocks. I'm expressing an opinion. I never said his performance last night was poor. It was a good win, with a couple of things that need to be worked on before he steps up to the next level. Also, its not a case of me thinking Bernards better. He is better. Thats a fact. He's light years ahead of Paul Hyland. FACT. What I was doing was speculating as to what Peters might be thinking at this stage. Having had a SBW (until a couple of weeks ago) that operated at a much higher level than Paul Hyland I don't think he'll push behind Paul. I think Patrick has a much better chance of getting Peters backing. As for the sitting on my computer reference? What are you saying? I'm not allowed have an opinion on someone that isn't happy, clappy, head in the clouds positive because I don't box professionally? Am I not entitled to an opinion at all maybe? Are you suggesting people have to box to be entitled to an opinion? Because if that was the case there would be a lot of empty halls around the world. You might not like that I don't think Paul Hyland is half as good as some people crack him up to be. You may not like that I think Peters is far more likely to give Patrick Hyland his backing out of the 3 boys. However, I'm entitled to them whether you like it or not. I go to watch these lads box, I support Irish shows pro and amateur and I keep as up to speed as I can on all facets of boxing over here. Opinions are allowed and don't have to be ridiculously biased and lopsided. Theres a difference between talking about someone on here and what their flaws are than going to to a fight and standing up and booing him or something.
Irish see off Italians at the Stadium Saturday, 13 March 2010 11:31 Eric Donovan produced a career best performance as Ireland beat Italy 7-5 at the National Stadium in Dublin on Friday night. Donovan, from the St Michael's Athy club, beat reigning World lightweight champion and AIBA World boxer of the year Domenico Valentino 11-8 at the home of Irish boxing. Big Tipperary heavyweight Con Sheehan, the current EU champion, secured the win for Ireland with a 4-2 decision over 2007 AIBA World champion Clemente Russo in the second last contest of the 12 bout international. John Joe Nevin, Tyrone McCullagh, World Youth champion Ray Moylette, John Joe Joyce and Darren O'Neill, the reigning EU middleweight champion, also had their hands raised in victory. Moate light flyweight Gary Molloy lost out to Vincenzo Picardi in the opening light flyweight bout of the evening, a 7-2 victory securing to win for the 2008 EU bronze medallist. Jimmy Moore, from the St Francis club in Limerick, was out-pointed 13-7 by Alex Ferramosca in the second light flyweight duel of the night. Moore pulled it back to 2-2 at the end of the first and was 6-5 down at the end of the second. However, the Italian added another seven points to his total in the third and final round to see off the brave challenge of the Limerick man. Nevin reduced the arrears after coming from behind to outfox and outbox Vittorio Parrinello. The Azzuri bantamweight was 1-0 ahead at the end of the first, but Nevin turned on the style near the bell for the end of the second to surge 5-2 ahead. The third round was all Nevin, the Cavan BC ace measuring his opponent for some rapid-fire shots en route to an impressive verdict. Meanwhile, Donegal featherweight Tyrone McCullagh made it 2-2 after four bouts with an equally impressive victory over Beijing Olympian Allession Di Sevino. McCullagh, who claimed his first senior belt last weekend, was always ahead in this bout, first and second round leads laying the platform for a 10-6 verdict for the Illies Golden Gloves man. Donovan was 2-1 up against Valentino midway through the first round, but the World champion levelled affairs right at the bell for the end of the stanza with a short range right hook. Donovan then landed some excellent shots to lead 8-5 going into the third. Valentino pulled it back to one point in the final frame. However, Donovan was never going to be denied in his own back yard and drove home another three points to claim a well-deserved win. Philip Sutcliffe had the crowd on their feet in a three round thriller with Davide Cenciarelli only to lose out by a two-point margin, while John Joe Joyce produced another slick performance at the South Circular Road venue. Darren O'Neill, who revealed he injured his right hand in the first round, ensured that Ireland couldn't be beaten on the night, after chalking up an 11-1 win over Luca Podda. Ireland's Disha Gezim. a replacement for Ken Egan who was out with the flu, lost out to Siomone Fiori in the third last bout of the evening Sheehan, from the Clonmel BC, found himself 2-0 down at the end of the first round versus Russo. However, the Italian ceded two points after receiving a public warning - he was cautioned twice by ref Larry Durand for this offence - for repeatedly hitting with the inside of his glove. Sheehan then took maximum advantage to score the remaining two points of the bout and secure Ireland victory. Driminagh super-heavyweight David Joyce lost 15-4 to Olympic and double World champion Roberto Cammerelle in the final bout of the night. However, Joyce can be proud of his display against one of the best pound-for-pound amateur boxers in the world. Both nations will meet again at the Donegal Celtic club in Belfast on Sunday. Jonny Stapleton The young Irish fighter who played a major role in preparing Manny Pacquioa for his latest multi million dollar mega fight has backed the popular Filipino to win by stoppage this in Texas tonight. Jamie Kavanagh was hand picked by Freddie Roach as the perfect sparing foil for the seven weight World champion as he readied himself for the challenge of Joshua Clottey. Now having shared blows with the greatest boxer in the world, the 2008 World Amateur Youth silver medallist predicts the Pac Man will take full advantage of Clotteys fighting spirit to knock him out. The Crumlin native, who arrived in the Wild Card Gym in January via a eight year stint in Spain, also claimed a Pacquioa victory this Saturday will lead to the of the century with Floyd Mayweather. Manny and Joshua are both great fighters but Manny has too much for him. The fight between Manny and Cotto was a great one too watch. I think this one will be better, but it wont last as long. Cotto was in survival mode after the sixth round of that fight Clottey is not that type of fighter he will not give up much ground and will be in there to fight. So I am backing Manny to win by knockout in the 6th or 9th round, Kavanagh who lives in LA with his Spainish trainer Sedano Ruiz and credits Phil Sucliffe and the Crumlin boxing gym for a lot of his amateur success explained. I think there is too much money on the table for the Mayweather Pacquioa fight not to happen. If they dont fight it will be a great lose for boxing it is a mega fight one that should happen. The talented prospect, who just last year watched Pacquioa as a fan, revealed his shock at being chosen to be a key component of the global superstars training regime. But claimed he will use the experience gained in his first Pacquioa camp to propel his own career toward the boxing summit. I am not sure why I was picked to be in the camp. Freddie picks the sparring partners and I was in shock when I was asked. It is my first Pac Man camp and hopefully not my last. Only last year I made the trip out to Vegas to see him beat Hatton and the next thing I am getting in the ring trading punches with him. Every boxer would like to say that they went a few rounds with Manny. Its crazy getting in the ring and starring across at him on the other side, it was a great feeling. Manny is in the history books and is a boxing legend. He is a machine in the ring and I am learning as much off him as I can.
I'm going to try and stay up, it's not every week one gets to watch the best P4P boxer in the world, and also Pacquiao's on the bill. But seriously from what I read in the Belfast Telegraph, John seems to be fully focused for this contest, back with his old trainer and happy.I don't know much about his opponent only that at first glance his record looks impressive, but look a little closer, and you realize Medina has fought nobody of note expect Vanes Martirosyan [who beat him on points]. Although Daniel Herbert of Boxing News thinks this match is "tough to call, but Duddy can take a narrow points victory"
Damn, Taylor finally lost. They must have drugged her or something. Seriously though I hope this is just a once off blip. I didn't see it but I believe she might be lathargic and has been very busy lately. Having said that she lost to the former world featherweight champion so no shame in that. I know its too early to suggest this but I hope to god she stays amateur as I reckon she has another 8 years to deliver 2 medals for us in 2012 and 2016. A bit premature and I know the last thing she needs is pressure based on expecations but seriously think she is going to deliver the goos. On a separate note, anyone see Con Sheehan I heard it was described on RTE today as a career best?
Great win for the Irish boys especially con and eric if big con keeps working on his strength he could be a medal hope for the next olympics aswel as oneill, donovan (the way he's performing at the min) tommy McCarthy if he keeps improving, nevin and paddy bronze ofcourse. Lets hope the boys get another win at the DC tomorrow night.... The futures bright, the futures green!!!
