http://mmajunkie.com/news/18282/ins...es-toney-says-he-wants-brock-lesnar-first.mma Boxing champ James Toney has been a hot topic for mixed martial arts fans from the moment his recent UFC signing was made official. What seemed a mere curiosity as Toney followed UFC president Dana White around the country begging for a shot in the octagon quickly turned into a potential game-changing acquisition. But is the UFC supporting a freak show? Or can Toney prove boxing's value in MMA? And whom exactly is Toney going to fight? On the newest edition of HDNet's "Inside MMA," the 41-year-old boxer said he doesn't want any pushover; in fact, he'd be comfortable starting with UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar. "I want Brock Lesnar," Toney said. "I'm the heavyweight champion of the world vs. the UFC champion. That'd be a hell of a match." And if Lesnar's not in the cards, Toney said there's a few other guys he wouldn't mind facing. "Randy Couture, Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz, or whatever his name is," Toney said. "It doesn't matter. I'm not a sideshow. This is the real deal here." While Toney's signing has already been officially announced, when and where he'll debut for the organization has not. Liddell and Ortiz, opposing coaches on Spike TV's soon-to-debut "The Ultimate Fighter 11," are expected to face off this June, though Couture and Lesnar are currently without opponents. Toney began boxing professionally in 1989 and fought as light as 155.5 pounds. As his career progressed, he fought as heavy as 237 pounds in 2006. In his most recent outing, a September 2009 TKO win over Matthew Greer, Toney weighed in at 217.5 pounds. Toney insists he has the utmost respect for the sport of mixed martial arts, but he believes it's time MMA fighters develop more respect for boxing. "I never said nothing less about the sport," Toney said. "But when you come disrespect the man who's 20 years deep and has won 12 different title in six different weight divisions and say MMA sport is better boxing, you got to be kidding me." I believe he holds the International Boxing Association heavyweight title. It's an alphabet title but it is a belt.

if toney was in shape, young, fast, and strong then yeah maybe he could get lesnar. he's none of those things so he'd have to win a couple first, which he won't.

If Lesnar gets him to the ground, it's over. If the fight stays in the air for more than 5 seconds, Brock is getting laid out. UFC fighters might be trained in many different arts of fighting, but only a rare few actually have a decent chin. Most fighters in the UFC usually crumble after the first big punch lands on their chins. We have already seen what happens when a good puncher lands on a MMA fighter, they go to sleep.
Man I love James! He's got some major brass balls to step into this game without having a long transition period where he can really learn the craft. I think he'll do well. Just not against certain guys. NO ONE should try to stand with James if they don't want to loose....but they should be able to take advantage of james's weaknesses on the ground.
honesly punisher u thick ******* just stfu and gtfo u clown! is there not an under 9's forum for ******ed posters u could join? if you think that one example of a fighter being knocked out by a boxer(under boxing rules i might add) is indicative of what will always happen under such circumstances or that boxers hit harder then mma fighters and mma fighters cant take a punch then i can only reccomend therapy!
james will be limited in his stand up! u people are beyond stupid! dont you understand the concept of standup in mma? in incorporates clinch work, low kicks, high kicks and if i had my way elbows! muay thai destroys boxing everytime! god almighty a shoulder roll will not save you from a shin to the temple and nor will a check hook stop your legs being swept! karate is a staple of many fighters arsenal too!
Oh yeah... James Toney can KO guys if they stand with him for more than 5 secondsatsch. I would never say something as brazen as "If the fight goes to the ground Toney will lose in 5 seconds." because it is complete nonsense. The reason the wrestling background is superior to the boxing background isn't because Lesnar can finish the fight in no time the second the fight goes to the ground (thuogh I can't imagine Toney lasting a LONG time) but because Toney won't ever be able to get back up. Even prime Mike Tyson didn't win even a majority of his boxing matches in the first three minutes. One punch KOs happen and early KOs happen but to think that Lesnar couldn't even SURVIVE for a bit on his feet against Toney is stupid. Hell, he could just run away from Toney if he had to...
Go back to beating off to your gay ass UFC 34 DVD. I boxed most of my life and have sparred with a few friends that do MMA and go to ohio for tournaments. I admit, they are very well conditioned. Though when it comes to their punching technique and being able to take a punch, it's almost pathetic. I wore 16 oz gloves, and was rocking him with a jab. I watch UFC every once in awhile, and I still can't get over how bad their chins are.
I already seen what Briggs, Morrison, and Mercer did to guys with the first decent to heavy punch landed in the fight. Toney doesn't even have to sit on a punch to knock most of them out with 4 oz gloves. In the same respect, we all seen what happend to Mercer once the fight went to the ground against Kimbo. It was over rather quickly, against a guy not exactly known for submission game.
keep laughing! cos we're laughing at ya not wiv ya! and il be pissing myself when toney has a vaginal tear inside the octagon! now what size boot does your mouth take? are u still losing sleep cos wlad is no.1 sweet cheeks or are those jabs to the head the cause of your tourrette's?
