Should Hopkins be removed from the current P4P top ten list?

Should Hopkins be removed from the current P4P top ten list?

He currently stands at number 4. His last competitive fight was in 2008 and there are none chalked in.

If he's not going to take real fights anymore, surely there is an argument that he should get the boot.

Yes, I know he's old etc... good luck to him in his money fight, but the P4P top ten is not an OAP charity.

Given that the Ring (if we're taking that as 'official') P4P top five also includes Shane Mosley, who hasn't fought in 14 months and Juan Manual Marquez who hasn't won a fight in the past year, that's actually quite a hard argument to back up....

    Yes.

I'm a big Hopkins fan (obviously), but he should have been removed the second this Hopkins vs Jones farce was announced.

The Ornelas fight was fine at the time because we all thought it was a tune-up for another serious fight, like Adamek or Dawson, or even Johnson or Williams or Danny Green.

But to follow it with this shameful and pointless mismatch is just too much. The top 10 p4p is for the fighters taking on and beating the best comp available - which Hop clearly is not doing anymore.

exactly. hopkins jumped back in the list with pavlik but you have to follow up it for someone. what if he doesn't fight til next year? or 2012? what's the limit. this jones fight is less than pointless. when he wants to fight someone legitimate, he could earn back his spot.

i respect hopkins, just like most of us on this forum. but for a guy who complained for years about having to earn his money and respect from the establishment, he's abusing it now

Yes he's overated as of now but he said the Ornelas fight was set-up so he could fight Jones. Can't blame him for wanting revenge but he's wasting time and if he isn't going to face a top guy that deserves to fight him then he should retire.

BTW is Jones even a top 10 lt hvy? If so then the rankings really need to reconsider the way they rank.

Err, no we didn't. It was supposed to be a tune up fight ahead of Hopkins v Jones. That's why Hopkins/Ornelas and Jones/Green were on the same day....

Mosley beat Margo at the end of January last year.

He's also due to fight Floyd in a couple of months.

And that would be 14 months ago, as I said.

You don't generally get rated on the basis of what you're 'going to do'.

So, if he doesn't fight for another two years, he's going to stay there forever?!

Sorry, I like Hopkins, but right now his place is becoming questionable.

Ornelas was landing on Bernard fairly freely.

Hopkins is my favourite boxer of all time but he is no longer fighting to prove himself. He is simply fighting for money. He no longer looks for the greatest challenges and has not fought regularly enough to keep his standing.

Hopkins wouldn't be in my list (if I could be bothered to actually consider one right now) - Ornelas fight doesn't cut it. Mosley wouldn't either though on the basis of period of inactivity over 12 months.

You have to have some actual recent basis to rank people on imo.
