Who do you think is the guy who beats on old or past it fighters. I dont mean like one or two old guys but I mean who made a career of fighting past it kinda fighters. My top pick is definitley Brian Nielsen Some fights are Leonard Camacho, Gatti Gomez, Cooney Norton, those are just one fight who else has made a career of fights like these
It's only a matter of time before someone says "Pacquiao"...but anyway, interesting question, and a hard one to answer. I can't think of anyone who fought nothing but old and used up fighters for their entire career. But I will say that Gomez's career didn't exactly skyrocket after he beat Gatti. You might be right about Camacho and Cooney, though.
dawson was just fighting who was considered the best at 175. Tarver and Johnson although old were still big names and the most well known there. He isnt going out of his way to fight old timers. Thing about Calzaghe is there was public demand for an RJJ or Hopkins match up for years but he would have none of it until they were old.
How has Alfonso Gomez made a career out of beating old / past it fighters? Just scan his record and it's not that apparent. The only other name is Tackie who went on to fight Holt. Gatti chose Gomez as an opponent to bow out on and Gomez is hardly going to turn down a chance to fight Castillo on a big bill. It's great exposure for him.
Sadly Dawson's options for money and HOF are old Johnson tarver RJJ Hopkins will be better on his resumee than anybody else at the wait like Cloud or Pascal especially if those 2 dont materialize. Dawson is in a tough spot 175 upper echelone still old guys Calzaghe got his best 2 wins and his legacy on old guys but not a whole career
I didn say Gomez does this I listed one fight as an example for other people to get my thread topic Nielsen was the guy I picked cause all his big wins were over the hill guys
elterrible could you contradict yourself anymore? you just pumped up dawson for fighting two guys ol' bhop dominated and finish by denegrating calzaghe for fighting bhop who was no.1 at lhw ahead of dawson! and calzaghe was 36 himself! honestly the double standards and hypocrisy of some posters is laughable!
I agree with this everybody said RJJ was old and Calzaghe is a bum but RJJ was what 39 Joe was 36 not a big difference.People build up Dawson for this but not Joe. I give credit to both guys who are very good fighters
Calzaghe was at the top of the UK scene for years and had avoided fights with RJJ and Hopkins in the US for a long time. Dawson is a young up and comer, he fought who is around at 175 to fight. He didnt wait around for Tarver and Johnson to get old to fight them. They were old when get got his big break. Finally Calzaghe is retired and his biggest wins on his legacy are over those old fighters. Dawson is still young and he has yet to complete his legacy. He is just a young fighter who got his start beating the old guards. The same way Tyson did with Holmes, Morales did with Zaragosa ect. That is the difference. Also I did not pump up dawson, I dont really like him though he seems like a nice guy he is boring. I was just stating that I can not fault him for fighting Tarver and Johnson as those were the top guys in the division at the time.
the eubank win and the manner in which he won is far better than anything dawson has done! an old johnson beat him first time round.
RJJ was KTFO twice.... calzaghe was still undefeated. There was a big difference. RJJ was shot that is undeniable.
