The answer is simple.

He wanted and would... If his boxing instincts tells there's an opportunity to do so. In that fight, with Pac's work rate and continues flurry, he seldomly had the opportunity.

 

Clottey chin is too good for any of that to happen

 

It's actually true. For a long time, the most hurtful punches from Pacquiao have Bern counters. He countered Hatton for the first knockdown and knockout, both Cotto knockdown were counters, he hurt De La Hoya several times with counters, the first knockdown in JMM I was a counter, as was the knockdown in the second bout, the knockout against Diaz was a counter.

I could go on, but you get the point. Opening up against Pacquiao is rarely beneficial because he will usually have the faster hands and he throws from such unorthodox angles.

If he opened up then he would have definitely been hit even more often.

Good performance by Pacquiao. He's laid down the challenge to Floyd. He's not the biggest guy at this weight but he's been whooping the top guys so far. Floyd and Manny are clearly the top 2 guys and are a distance between the rest of them.

 

clottey doesnt have the style that opens up much anyway. he sits behid his guard, waits for the other guy to stop punching, then hits back. but manny never stops punching, and when he does he is out of range by the time clottey would have time to set himself. I personally think that to beat pac you have to sit in the pocket blocking slipping and countering, but i dont think there is anyone around who can do that right now

 

Clottey had too much respect for Pac. Its showed in his interviews before the fight and it showed in his performance.

 

Clottey's happy that he lasted the 12 rounds.
