That was awful. I watched it on some other network feed online with different commentators so I missed the good old HBO crew's sketchy commentary. Didn't Lampley at one point say something about Pac landing brilliant shots to Clottey's gloves and shoulders? lol

It wasnt as bad as when they worked Phony Boy Oscar's fights where he would threw a flurry and miss all the punches and Lampley would scream as if he had landed anything and then would go on a rant about his precision.

It was twice as bad as that, did you even watch that link produced on the last page BladeRunner? That might be the single most embarrassing pieces of Boxing Commentary ever recorded on film. I thought Pachecho and Watt were bad, they'd never have done something so repulsively bad as too shout "BANG, BANG, BANG" repeatedly for 10 seconds.

I watched the sky sports version, but what Lampley did doesnt surprise me,he has been doing stuff like that for years for me hes a cheerleader disguised as a commentator.

The only good thing about HBO's commentating team used to be Larry "the legend" Merchant but he only makes a cameo once every three months now unfortunately.

Guys, it's hard to do what Lamps does. He is the best in the business. It's also twice as hard to stay unbiased when you're doing "play by play" in front of a crowd of 51K when they're overwhelmingly in favor of a certain fighter.

Most networks have an agenda when a certain fighter is being pushed by a certain promoter...that's just the way it is. No network is immune to this mentality. Try judging a fight under these conditions...it's very difficult not to be swayed by the crowd.

Johnson, Tessitore, and Tomkins all do the same thing. If you don't seem to notice, it's because they're in favor of the fighter you're rooting for.

Oh Lampley did that last night as well, all of a sudden he started screaming when Clottey was in the corner. I was like what the hell is he seeing, then they showed the replay and not one punch landed lol.

To me the terrible part is that Lampley let his emotions get to him and it influenced his commentating...

We'll continue this discussion when you show me a video clip of any other high profile fight commentator on the planet who shouts "BANG BANG BANG" for 15 seconds. Lampley seperated himself last night, and in the worst imaginable way. Nobody's claiming commentators don't have a slight bias about their work and comments, but most of them, 90% of them, make it a priority to keep their dignity whilst calling the action, not shouting "BANG BANG BANG!" Inexplicable, I'm speechless that he would do that on air.

The endless BANG BANG BANG's by Lampley in that one round was cringe worthy. I honestly thought he had lost it. Was very odd, he ought to have some psychiatric testing done.

And overall as usual Lampley was his usual over the top bias self, annoying as heck. Surely there has to be someone better out there.

That is exactly the point, everybody is biased and sometimes it shines through. But Lampley crossed the line in my opinion, he just lost it last night...

  13. Yeah we were not impressed with the commentary one bit. In fact it was ****ing awful.

At one point Max said "There's nothing as exciting as the moment before the bell rings. Apart from the moment after the bell rings."

It's ****ing tripe. From all of them.

And then Emmanuel Stewart got shouted down for saying Pac was getting hit.

    It was just terrible.

Jim Lampley was shockingly bad. He was treating the whole night with contempt instead of sticking to his job as a commentator. The Showtime crew are much more professional.
