This content is protected This content is protected At some point before the fight they showed Pacquiao stretching his neck and it was like a carbon copy of a video clip i've seen of Duran before but I can't remember where
Congratulations on finding that picture, that might have been 1 of 3 times where Manny landed cleanly on Clottey, who I felt did himself proud.
I don't know what fight you watched cause Pacquiao couldn't miss with his right hook to the body. It was zoned in all night
Whenever Pacquiao threw the right to the body or any bodyshots he did well, it was balatant and i was talking to my tv saying just throw body shots and move around him and you're all day, but he didn't do it enough. Mayweather will beat him imo, we have even more evidence of that now. If he's getting pissed off with Clottey's defence i don't see how he gets to Floyd enough to win the decision. If Mayweather moves excessively i actually think that's better for Pacquiao, because he is fast enough to keep up with him. Imo Mayweather should box similarly to how he did against Marquez. Clottey's style which is a mesh between Ike Quartey and Winky Wright did not fare terribly last night, he just wasn't on Pacquiao's level in terms of the tools he had to go to work with, he didn't have enough and wasn't good enough technically. That said, Clottey's strong defence is somewhat based upon physical strength and if Mayweather doesn't have that then he should be beaten, but i think Mayweather's physical strength is fine personally. Pacquiao still has the best chance of beating Floyd, because of how dynamic he is, and they have been the ones who have given Floyd trouble in the past. I favour Mayweather though.
Obviously I was talking about head-shots, PHILLA. He didn't land all to cleanly upstairs all night. Manny's head seems to be going through a metamorphosis every 2-3 years, he'll probably look like Ivan Drago in 2012.
He sure could look more like him. All he has to do is fight Mayweather and quit in the middle of a round. (For Pachilles only)
I think Floyd's gonna need more than a good defence if he wants to beat Manny. He's gonna have to open up and punch, which will be better for Manny and better for us as a spectacle unless he can negate Manny's workrate. Manny's got to be in and out and resist following Floyd around the ring. I can see Floyd setting traps for him. I think Floyds become a bit of a victim of his own success in that it's years since he's had to take a good shot. I just want to see how he reacts if the going gets tough and Manny does start landing. Who knows, if we're lucky we could see Manny bring the best out of Floyd. I just hope it's not enough. Bollocks, United have just scored another one.
teeto i think we saw the same things in that fight. Clottey's defense was solid as a rock he really impressed me. But he's so frustating...obviously i was rooting for pacman so im glad he didnt, but when he did throw his punches they were fast, sharp and pinpoint, and i was generally worried that if he put his foot on the peddle, pacman wouldve been in danger. It maybe that pacman's workrate was just too much of him to cope with and meeting his pace wouldve be dangerous, but i feel Clottey was just so strong he should've imposed himself and it might have worked. The amount of clean right hands Pacman took does worry me a little, if a mayweather fight is to take place. Having said that Pac did show once again the reason i cheer for him. He just wanted it more, he was fearless and relentless. It was the equivalent of punching a solid brick wall as hard as you can 1,200+ times. Clottey was so strong, though i think he gave pacman a little too much respect. Maybe he underrates his own ability, or maybe thats just his unchanging style. Either way it wasn't enough, the hungrier lion will take the kill. I think i gave the last 3 rounds to Clottey and maybe the 6th and the 7th even, on accurate punching. He was just wasn't able to match pac's pace and reverted to his shell. Oh and Pac can definatley take big welterweight punches, no doubt in my mind now. A sidenote, did the commentary **** any of you off at all? I've noticed this a few times now with british commentary, they say something early on then run with it and will not change their view on the fight even if it takes a turn. They were talking about it being stopped, i didnt see that at all.
Well the HBO commentary appears to have been much, MUCH worse so I'm more than happy to have had Darke and Watt.
Yeah everyones saying HBO was terrible last night, maybe we were lucky not to have to listen to them!
There were at least 10 separate incidents that made me want to shut the sound off. The worst of all was a one minute stretch where Lampley would yell "bang...bang" for every punch Pac would throw.
I agree with this. Clottey, the few times that he DID open up seemed to indicate that he could hurt Manny. My real question is why didn't he open up more often? The first few rounds, I figured, Ok, he wants to let Manny blow for a while, and then, when he senses a vulnerability he's going to go to work. But it just never happened. Even in the 7th round, a round Manny seemed to take off, Clottey didn't do it. Like you, I wish to take nothing away from Manny. He is one of the few fighters I find so inspiring these days, his speed, his workrate, his angles, footwork, his HEART, this guy would have been great in any era. But to say that I was disappointed with Clottey last night would be a real understatement. Granted, if he DID open up he may have really gotten BEATEN up, but isn't that what he was getting paid 3 million dollars for, to at least give it a real honest shot?!
