To barely loss a round to Clottey at welter is a great performance by Pacquiao

Joshua Clottey had given Antonio Margarito hell before he got injured and had looked the better fighter against Miguel Cotto.

He is also a very big, very strong, very tough natural welter.

Pacquiao didn't only beat him, he didn't only beat him comfortably, he virtually shut the man out.

Considering Pac's natural weight is probably around 122-130lbs, that is quite a feat.

I was a little disappointed he didn't get the stoppage in the end as he was so dominant, but it is extremely difficult to make the breakthrough against someone who knew he was sorely outclassed and so was firmly in survival mode, just covering up and trying to make it to the final bell.


All in all, another excellent win and another dominant performance for the Pacman.


I'd like to see him fight at 140 in the summer, defend The Ring title there, before facing the Mosley-Mayweather winner in an autumn superfight. Timothy Bradley would be the best choice IMO, though if Malignaggi beats Khan I expect Manny will want to shut that tranny's mouth for all his drugs jibes.

Pac was fantastic. Another amazing performance.

Great performance by Pac I agree but Clottey was never anything special to begin with. The guy had never won a title that wasn't vacant and always losses when he steps up in class.

 

Easy to look good against a human heavy bag with arms.

It is impressive, but not great. Clottey's style is the worst kind for a guy like Pacquiao.

 

Manny weighed in the 140's on fight night when he fought at 130 so he doesn't walk around at 122, that's ludicrous... Styles make fights, and most people thought Clottey's style wouldn't be a problem for Manny, which we now know is true. So to call it a great perfomance is a bit much...

 

Pac dispatched Clottey with less trouble than Luis Collazo gave Shane Mosley or Zab Judah gave Floyd Mayweather. Clottey did beat Judah and I think he's a better fighter than Collazo too. Once the fight started, it was clear a stoppage wasn't on the cards because Clottey was in survival mode, he knew if he opened up he'd get brutalized by the most explosive attacker in the game. Pac's defence was a little sloppy early on, but he tightened things up after the first third of the fight and just picked Clottey apart with some brilliant combinations. Clottey was a proven top-class welter, it was mesmerizing the way Pac was pummelling him round the ring.

 

It was an incredible performance from the little feller, i really thought that Clottey had a top chance of beating him, i'am a big pac fan from the time he hammered MAB but what he's achieving now is absolutly unbelievable & too dominate this fight in the manner he did defies logic.

If he called it a day & retired he'd have to go down as one of the ATG's, he's from that throwback warrior mentality much like Duran was in his Lightweight days.
