The show was of epic proportions, it was an event but the boxing didn't even come close to living up to the atmosphere. Putting Castillo and Gomez on that card was an embarassement. Diaz v. Soto was a decent fight and one I was looking forward to but that didn't exactly play out as exciting. Duddy isn't very good and had no business fighting on that card and then to top it all off Clottey did nothing. Boxing was the marque event of the night, Pac would bring in the casual fan and a $50 PPV stunk out the joint. I understand Clottey was one of Pac's best options, and judging by his face that was one of his toughest fights in a long time. Problem is Clottey was being Clottey, I was hoping he would take a chance but he's Clottey and we got what we got. If Pac and Mayweather fail to fight it would be a devistating blow for boxing. These two guys have generated a buzz individually and if they don't get in the ring they will do permament damage to the sport. ****ing make it happen god damit. Give back to the game that gave so much to you and compromise somewhere but ****ing make it happen.
I agree. That's what I am upset about. People want to pass it off as impressive but in the grand scheme of things it isn't.
I garuntee there are people who bought that card that usually don't. Those people are expecting a return on their money and they got nothing. Last night I watched the Big East toruney, F1 qualifying and during the main event I was going through the guide looking for something. What a snooze fest. I was watching ****ing F1 qualifying, that is saying something right there
Ha that's one of my fav ko's I'm going to rewatch that sometime this week. Yeah I like all three but it kinda annoyed me that the fight wasn't stopped sooner in the first fight then I realized,"Well this was back then so the refs were more lenient"
It wasn't that bad, if you expected a brawl, then yeah, but why would you expect that. It was never billed as a "superfight", Clottey was a last-minute replacement in a fight Manny was supposed to win...
No. The fight could have been a lot better than that garbage if Clottey would have thrown a few punches. Don't let people fool you, he was more active in the Cotto, Margo and Judah fights. He wasn't a last minute minute replacement he had a couple months notice not a couple of hours.
The undercard was terrible with the Duddy fight being the best of the bunch. The music in between rounds came across as very small time, like Boro playing pigbag when they score at football.
The entire card including the main event stunk. For 51K people never going to pay to see another boxing event. Clottey seemed content to loose from the get go. HBO should make PPV events half as much only, if it was $25 I wouldnt feel as bad, at $50 I feel robbed. No wonder fans are turning to UFC they put great cards.
Did anyone outside of me wanna murder Lampley when he went through his "bangfest" in the 8th round? I think with every Lampley "bang" a Pacquiao fan across the globe ejaculated. P.S. To all those people saying Clottey did nothing, Clottey did everything he was expected to do. Honestly, it played out the same way that all of his other fights play out except this time he was fighting a much more active opponent. Maybe I'm saying this cuz I was watchin' the fight he had w/ Cotto live in the Garden thinkin', "Dammit, you sunuvabitch, throw some punches." But it was not to be. It was typical Clottey. Now if you're interested in a fighter going into a fight and literally not doing anything may I redirect you to one Kevin "Queenpin" Johnson in his bout with V. Klitschko.
It was lame. I think Jim was pissed and he lost it. I think he knew how important that fight was for the sport and it bombed big time.
