:-( How was boxing doing in teh 80's? Who was watching in the 80's? Yep, the casual fan. So tell me, how is a sport going to thrive with a small hardcore fan base? I didn't expect a brawl from Clottey, so stop with the strawman and pay attention to facts. If you think last night was good for the sport then yes, you aren't very bright.
When you garner the attention of the general public you need to put on event that doesn't disappoint. Paul said he still had fun which is good but sitting at home it was less than exciting. Yeah, we all knew what Clottey is but I hoped he would throw more. What pisses me off more than anything else is the undercard.
Because they didn't know the show was going to be so **** before they turned up perhaps. I'm sure for a lot of people the action was an anti climax.
The "casual fan" was watching in the 80's because those fights wasn't on PPV genious, not only that but it was shown on nation-wide television, primetime. That's facts for you... I would love for boxing to get that platform back, don't get me wrong, but that won't happen anytime soon. I watched the fight for free, without high expectations, so it was alright for me. I have no desire to speculate on whether it was good or bad for boxing, that's impossible to decide anyways so why bother?
Why reply to this thread then dick head? PPV is what it is, people will buy if they feel they are getting value. Last night provided zero value. The undercards need to be better. I'm sick of promoters givng us **** undercards, and I'm the unrealistic person here. OK whatever you say.
Was anyone else annoyed by the love fest between Pacquiao and Clottey before, during, and after the fight? These guys are supposed be trying to knock eachother's heads off yet they were acting like best friends the whole time. I almost threw up when I saw them laughing and joking during the stare down at the weigh in.
Well, the undercard was tragic admittedly. Should have added Valero or a match-up between two decent names. But for the main event, which was the main reason why the area was filled-up in the first place, I think Pacquaio did enough to show he really wanted a great, entertaining fight and did not want the fans to leave disappointed. Unfortunately, his partner was only thinking of not being knocked out and nothing else. But I won't go on to say it was a terrible night for boxing overall.
I replied, commenting on whether it was a good fight or not stupid, you are the one going on and on about how it was bad for boxing, as if all boxing fights will get cancelled from now-on. The bottom-line is you expected to get more out of your money, well tough luck, no need to cry about it...:hi:
You mean the staredown promo where Pac joked with a team Clottey member when the latter said.. "and the new champion.."? That was ****in' cool man.
Bottom line guys, Top Rank and Bob Arum don't care about the sport. They care about lining their pockets. Which they did last night at the expense of the sport. This was without a doubt the worst PPV event I have ever seen in front of what could prove to be one of the largest audiences. It would be akin to the Super Bowl being tied 0-0 at the end of regulation. Horrible night for the sport. Great night for Bob Arum, selfish, egomaniacal *****.
Why should casual fans pay fifty dollars for an event that might only have one good fight, if any? No, people started wising up a decade ago. Normally you'd get a couple of friends to split the PPV, but nobody wants to watch this **** anymore. All I have to say is thank god for the internet! Why stack an undercard when you can make PPVs out of each of those fights, that's the boxing way.
