No it's not. Baldomir clearly gave more in the Floyd fight. Baldomir is also a less capable fighter than Clottey. If it was like fighting Baldomir people would've scrutinized Pac for fighting this type of opponent. But many didn't, and the HBO team want on to praise him will criticizing Clottey's lack of effort. For Baldomir they never ever would make it an issue of his lack of gusto.

I can say he didn't give it his all. He wouldn't adapt, adjust or take a chance in trying to win.

Obviously he was over-matched. Doesn't mean he couldn't have still done more.

By saying he couldn't have done more to me is insulting to the legends who poured their hearts to fight and win championships. If Douglas had never fought Tyson and never won the championship but STILL fought Holyfield and got knocked out the way he did then people would just insist he wasn't as good as a fighter and that he was just "outclassed."

He was supposed to demand awkward blood testing and get out of the fight, obviously.

it's no different to what floyd did in his last fight. he could have stopped marquez if he just poured it on. it's just that floyd is winning and doesn't care too much in giving the crowd a good show.

I agree. Those people who think otherwise simply are coach potatoes. I am not a professional boxer but even in basketball when I am playing a superior player, something unables me to perfom at my level. I want to but I am unable to. Fear of being blocked and embarrased takes over.

Catch and go.. it's not like the fight wasn't winnable for him, he just fought like he was scared.

everybody said the fighter clottey is, isn't enough to beat pacquiao, we all knew it and we all got what we expected, no surprise here, which is why this fight made no damn sense from the very beginning

His chance was to to try and knock Manny out or out box him .He chose not to take it..no disrespect for any fighter going into the ring with Manny but a lack of ambitition or belief thwarted it
His strategy was never going to beat Manny and this fight wil stay with him

Not me. I'm embarrassed to be scored on. I'll play tough and get physical and use the advantages I have to show my worth and value. I don't curl up into a ball and only given 90%. I try harder, do more. A fear of being blocked? I learned to get over that in like 8th grade. The superior player aspect for me is a challenge to push more.

Clottey just doesn't have that mentality.

People ragged on Haye for fighting the fight he needed to in order to win.

People stand up for Clottey for fighting the fight to lose and not get knocked out in.

    Bingo!

If it was that obvious, then people would've bet their house on Pac.

Going all out , in a reckless manner , is not his style... and if he did open up, he would have been badly battered and probably knocked out or tko'd

If Clottey opened up to try and return fire, he wouldn't have reached 12, and his face would have been a bloody mess.

There's a huge gulf between "going all out, in a reckless manner" and "throwing more than 30 punches a round, and being unwilling to open up even when the guy is standing in front of you, waiting for you to hit him."

Clottey had two options. Continue to fight his way and DEFINITELY LOSE. Or try to do more and risk getting hit more and perhaps KOed for a chance to win. He chose to definitely lose. He made a decision, very early in that fight, that he was going to lose it. Do you understand how ridiculous that is for a supposedly world class fighter? To decide that you aren't even going to attempt to win the biggest fight of your life? A fight in which you have incurred nothing worse than even a nosebleed thus far?

He basically threw in the towel, they just didn't do us the favor of stopping the fight.

i think a reason many are so upset with clottey is because he clearly had a chance to beat manny if only he would throw more punches.

When clottey did throw punches he seemed to score very well, snapping pacs head back. He just wasn't working enough, steward had it 100% right when he said clottey doesn't have the mindset of a champion. You gotta go take the belt, impose your will, etc... even if you are unable to do that, YOU HAVE TO TRY! You get more respect going out on your back than being a heavy bag.

I don't want to hear excuses about his trainer, the trainer he had was telling him to punch more and he just wouldn't.

Oh what a stupid ad-hominem argument. You don't need to be great at something to criticize the way others do it. I am not a great writer, but I know a shitty book. I am not a great football player, but I know a shitty quarterback. I am not a great cook, but I know shitty food. And I am not a great boxer (though I do box and do Muy Thai for fun), but I know when a boxer puts in a shitty performance.
