Judah was overrated and therefore upon exposure immediately gave up that title. Whereas Malignaggi was not overrated but geniunely outclassed so the point still stands.

And just because you say KT "was on another level" doesnt make it so...

 

Tszyu. But Hatton could've passed him if he took better care of himself out of the ring. Hatton could've added 5 more good years to his career if it weren't for his lifestyle.

 

Watch Tszyu vs Vernon in the Amateurs then his fights vs Bergman, Rodriguez, Gonzalez. Tszyu has the reputation for having medium handspeed and being a slow starter, early Tszyu was nothing of the sort being a very aggressive fast starter and having very good handspeed.

Leading up to 2001 Zab was looking amazing. I'm not saying he didn't have times when he got sloppy in the ring.... but those (at that time) were still the exception to the rule of Judah.

I don't know a soul that was giving KT a serious chance of catching Judah in the fight. Especially not early in the fight. People would grant that KT has great timing and accuracy.... but just not enough speed to help him catch Zab.

Tszyu had other very good wins.... Hatton had very good wins too. But I don't think anything matches up to his win over Judah; not at that point in Judah's career.

 

Tszyu. Greater legacy and also I'd pick him to win H2H in their primes, although it wouldn't be an easy fight. Hatton would always have given Tszyu a good fight.

 

I don't know how you can say that about Judah in 2001.
Overrated? I don't think that's a fair assesment.
Judah was showing tons of potential and people were recognizing it for what it was.

for the 45 seconds it takes for KT to throw that laser right hand when Ricky comes charging in, it would be a good fight.

 

Basically, anyone who watches any of KT's early fights and thinks Hatton has even the tiniest little chance against him is either:

a.) blind
b.) ******ed
c.) a Mancunian
d.) all of the above

There are no other options.

 

people are forgetting that old kostya gave hatton a tough fight for the majority of the fight and that was with a biased ref that allowed hatton do to all of his holding and hitting


if you are talking prime for prime and ricky hattons prime WAS the kostya fight.... then I think a younger kostya beats him

 

the AMATEUR KT beats prime Hatton, and anyone who knows anything about KT's career knows that's not an outlandish statement.

 

hatton is a bad style matchup for KT. zoo was better against boxers than brawlers. he had a long right hand that would catch guys trying to move away from him. hatton's style is to smother a guy, and he would be inside of KT's power. kostya also liked to fight at a slower pace, & set guys up.

i would favor KT to beat hatton in his prime, but it would not be a walkover. the style issues that hatton posed will still be in effect.

that being said, i think kt is a better fighter, legacy wise, and all around compared to hatton. but styles make fights.
