This may sound like a silly question but...who really accomplished more in that decade? Many people blindly say Ali but I'm not so sure...:think

It just seems like there's overwhelming evidence supporting an argument for Duran. Ali, on the other hand, has some extraordinary wins against ATGs...not to mention his overall impact on the sport.

I think Ali's accomplishments were greater in the 1970's, but in the 70's, Duran was the P4P fighter of the decade.

It's a close one, but I'd have to pick Ali. While Duran did slay some giants in his career, I think Leonard has to be the apex in Duran's career in 1980, while with Ali, you have Frazier and Foreman, 2 atg's. Ali was also a heavy underdog vs. Foreman. While Duran also beat Barkley, who twice slayed Hearns, that didn't happened until the 80's, but Duran did have a reign of terror in the 70's over very good competition. Duran was just known more for dominating his opponents, but Ali had the much better comp.

    Duran.

Ali was a shot fighter by 76', maybe 77', getting some controversial wins, and then splitting a pair of fights with a novice with 7 pro fights.

Duran was a dominant LW champ, in addition to having a very good win as a young contender on the road to the title (Marcel), and finished off the 70s with another very good win over Palomino.

    1) Duran
    2) Monzon
    3) Ali

Well considering I think Duran in the 70's was even better than Ali was in the 60's then Duran was definately better than Ali was in the 70's.

Monzon was a monster in the 70's. Undefeated that decade and I think most if not his entire MW title reign was in the 70's.

Why don't you take Duran's **** out of your mouth? His LW competition was average, he got bitchslapped by ALL the great welterweights of the day. JCC crushes him, Pac crushes him, plenty of guys crush him. lol @ this thread and the transparent Duran suckoffnishness of this 'question'.

The 70's was a helacious era for the heavyweights, and Ali beat everybody. in the same time frame, Duran had some stellar competition as well, and like Ali , eventually beat everybody at 135, and some top guns at 147. Who was the best ? You'd have to compare Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Jerry Quarry, Jimmy Ellis, George Chuvalo, Oscar Bonavena, Bob Foster, Floyd Patterson against Esteban De Jesus, Ray Lampkin, Carlos Palomino, Edwin Viruet, Ken Buchanan, Saoul Mamby, Adolpho Viruet, and Monroe Brooks.
I loved Duran , but looking at their list of accomplishments objectivly, Ali has the edge, even if he did sputter out towards the end of the decade.

Ali looked very beatable and probally lost at least 2 of the 3 Norton fights. Frazier beat him clearly. Spinks beat him clearly. Lyle was fighting on even terms with him until Ali landed the bomb. Shavers gave him hell. Meanwhile Duran carved through almost all of his opponents. Other than the DeJesus fight Duran was flawless.

Duran's resmue was better and he looked better on film.

I notice how you didnt try to reply to any of the intelligent replies in the thread...Thats because you would get owned like every time you try to hopelessly debate anything to do with Duran.

And I use the term debate loosely...all you do is rubbish Duran and whine about people liking him. Get over it mate, you arent changing anyones mind.
