I noticed Joshua Clotty had a lot of success with lead right hands which seemed to catch Manny Pacquiao continuously as well as some uppercuts when manny rose his his hands and stood in a stationary position. My point is that Floyd Mayweather often leads with straight right hands and also left hooks, rarely leads or sets up punches with the left jab. Mabey Manny found it difficult to deal with Clottys unushuall high gaurd and therefore did not expect those punches. Its interesting to find out how Mayweather will deal with Manny Pacquiao's relentless onslaught of power punches, then again its interesting to find out if that pressure will suit Mayweathers sharpe counter punching skills. We will have to wait and see.
i think pacman getting caught was due to him getting complacent because clottey was so inactive and not posing no real threat. Against Mayweather, Pacman will instinctively be alot more vary and cautious, thus not getting caught as easily.
I agree with the above. Against fighters Pacquiao knows he is faster than, such as Cotto and Clottey, he is willing to be tagged a few times in order to land. He and Roach arent stupid however, they will figure a more patient gameplan if the Mayweather fight comes off. I think Pacquiao would outland Floyd early, through sheer volume, but as the fight wears on, Mayweather would settle and against with the combination of that, Pacquiao tiring, and Mayweather's unpredictable punching nature, Pacquiao would be stopped in the later rounds.
I am a fan of both fighters but I couldn't honestly bet my house on the outcome. This is why the fight is so compelling for us fight fans. That being said Pac still makes a fundamental mistake that concerns me that could be exploited by someone as gifted as mayweather. And i've noticed this now in several of pac's recent fights. The mistakes is that Pac has a really bad habit of jumping in with his punches as he pushes forward off his front foot. This is not a smart thing to do against a counter puncher as fast as floyd as the lead right will be hitting the target every single time. Pac needs to be careful of that. One other thing that pac should be aware of is floyd's ability to use his defence as a weapon to also stop pac coming in so recklessly. If you notice at times floyd holds his elbow up quite high as part of his defence. If someone is continually coming into floyd's face what he does is he uses his elbow as part of his guard, more than actually elbowing you deliberately. This is quite smart because after a while the opponent rushing in will be more aware than ever of the consequences of continually rushing into floyd will result getting hit by the elbow like defence floyd adopts as part of his defensive stance. A prime example of what im talking about you can see in action against ricky hatton. I will try post a clip. Another thing I haven't seen anyone do to pac, is to clinch and work on the inside. neither clottey or cotto clinched pac once. Both shane and floyd have no problem clinching and working on the inside if that is what is required to get better results. One thing is for sure, floyd better start watching pac tape if he wants to win this fight. If he goes in there blind he could have his first loss. But something tells me he smarter than that.
it's hard to say. i want to see mayweather in against mosley first before deciding on what i think, because mosley is a much tougher challenge that clottey. going by what i think at the moment, then pacquiao has problems with counter punchers, and the last few opponents, diaz, oscar, hatton, clottey and cotto are not counter punchers, floyd is, and he's a marvelous counter puncher at that.
After Cotto it was the jab that beats Manny, now after Clottey it's the straight right... Manny will get hit, but I really doubt Floyd is gonna be twice as active as Clottey in there. If Manny throws 100 punches per round... Floyd tries to match that or even come close, he'll be getting countered himself.. Manny is a much better fighter than Castillo was... Is Floyd a much better fighter than when he fought Castillo??
freddie will watch the tape and notice all pacs mistakes and work on it, thats why pacman does so well. ricky had only one game plan and was relying on manny only using his left, and we all know what happened there.
Manny should stay away from Floyd if he wants to keep his invincible aura. He won't though because he's there to challenge himself and that can only be admired.
people need to put aside their fanboy ways. From a completely unbiased view can anyone honestly see Floyd being able to deal with Mannys rate of attack? Manny throws from every angle, and was ripping Clottey from everywhere, Yeah mayweather may be more skillful and might counter better, but Manny will walk through everything Floyd has got, and floyds not gonna be able to shoulder roll away from the angles of Manny's attack.
Take your own advice, Nick. Manny Pacquiao was actually invited to keep on throwing punches against Clottey because that was the only time he wasn't being hit. That is completely switched on it's head if he fights Floyd, because he's going to be getting hit when he's stationary in addition to when he's missing with flurries. The mistake you've made is that you've based your opinion entirely off what you seen on the Weekend. That was Joshua Clottey, not Floyd Mayweather Jr who has made a career out of punishing his opponent's mistakes. Think about the fight a little more. If people think Manny will imitate his work rate from the other night against Floyd when he's being hit flush with right hand counters every time he throws his left then we have a problem here.
Why the hell would Floyd try to match Manny's punch output? Punch volume is one thing, punch accuracy and timing is another. That, Mayweather will have plenty of. Secondly, Manny will not be so active against Floyd, and if he is, it would be to his disadvantage. High volume would give Pacquiao a chance to steal rounds on activity, but volume for the sake of volume will see him countered to hell and back.
Yawn. Another person with limited knowledge of how Floyd's defense works, putting everything on a single move called the "shoulder roll". Clottey is not Mayweather. They are nothing alike.
The key is can mayweather make pac drop his output? Against JMM and morales he was not that active there were times he would drop his output and box with them, that is exactly what floyd wants. Look at how frustrated pac got when cotto was running in the late rounds. But that was running and not punching back. Mayweather can do that 10x better than cotto. So it comes down to with his movement, defense and countering can he get pac to drop his output and fight his fight? I think he can. The opening rounds will probably go in pac's favor and if floyd makes the adjustments i expect him to control the pace by mid fight and come out with a win. look at the first round or two of hatton/floyd or the first 3 rounds of the judah fight they were a bit awkward as floyd was trying to adjust to their speed. but inbetween rounds of the judah fight roger saw floyd was loosing rounds by trying to box and jab with judah and told him to back him up and press it and the key is that floyd actually listened and did it and it worked unlike clottey who ignored his corner the entire pac fight.
