MMA Vs Boxing: Toney, Mercer and Bas Rutten Discussion

I'm aware. Guess I was just thrown off by the change. Most karate fighters I know would simply identify as their style, and not the generic karate. So, I guess that threw me off when you simply said karate and then switched...

Either way...still speechless.

 

Let's be fair: how many people did wrestling or judo while in high school? How many people did boxing or some type of karate?

 

Not sure how to answer because I'm trying to figure out your point...

 

My point is nobody finds wrestling or judo "cool".

Better tell that to the hundreds of thousands of wrestlers/judo fighters. Guess they missed the memo.

 

don`t really understand your logic here.whatever is effective(rules permitting)and gets the fight won is what`s important.i can`t see one move or submission or whatever as more or less "manly" than another.if a guy is a murderous puncher and your most effective way to avoid his attack is to bring him to the ground and lock him up then this is what should be done.you`d be off your ****ing head to think "**** ,this bloke hits hard but there is no way i`m gonna pull some ***** **** and bring him down.i`m gonna let this **** knock me the **** out!"

Grappling isn't concussive in the same way striking is so if I had to compare then I would call striker the more macho sport but all fighting is tough on the mind and body. Anyway, fighting is not about who is macho, otherwise Tank Abbot would be king. This isn't about bar room brawls.

Fighting, UFC, boxing etc are extremely technical sports coupled with physical talent and intelligence a winner is decided.

If Toney does any real sparring, I'd be shocked if he doesn't realise how MMA is so much more than being tough and throwing hands.

i think you`re wasting your time with this guy.i suspect he has no hands on experience of combat sports,which is fair enough,but you just wouldn`t post **** like this unless you had no clue about what you were wittering on about

Judging from his most recent post (Americans thinking it's real and yadda yadda yadda) I know you're correct...but another part of me is saying, "He can't really be that dumb....can he?" It's kind of a sad curiousity...
