If Duddy wasn't Irish I bet a lot of yous wouldn't rate him so highly. His performance the other night didn't do anything to justify a crack at a title. It's all well and good saying his opponent had decent hand speed, but who is Medina really? He's pretty much a nobody from a lower division than Duddy who weighed in 5lbs lighter.
That's right his performance didn't do anything to justify a crack at the Title, All I'm saying is he was not as bad as some are making out. Medina may be a nobody but i thought he put up a decent fight on the night. I don't rate Duddy highly at all, I think Macklin beats him in an all Irish Middleweight fight for example. One thing about John is he's been through a load of **** and got derailed along the way, I have a ton of respect for the guy but it's not because he's Irish, Nationality has nothing to do with it, as many posters on here know I'm actually Scottish.
And we don't hold it against him either. Nationality isn't everything. None of the Irish boxers that get discussed on here are bulletproof (except for Prunty who Paddy claims has a bulletproof 6pack) and will take criticism from time to time. In general, though, we're glad to see a much larger contingent of Irish professional boxers out there in the world making waves of different sizes than there were only a short while ago
The last time Duddy had a real chance to shine he blew it against Walid Schmidt, this time on a Pacquia undercard he had another huge opportunity and he just didn't impress. If it was his 15th fight i would have thought, decent workmanlike performance, but in his 30th fight against a light-middle in front of 50,00 fans and a tonne more on TV he just failed to shine again.
Good valid points, He didn't shine and he'll be the first to tell you that but he won the fight clearly for me and lives to fight another day, He also won the Schmidt fight but by the way people go on about that you'd have thought he lost, It was a shaky performance that night theres no getting away from it but John keeps on hanging in there and thats one of the things i respect about him. Who knows if he'll ever get a shot at the Title, perhaps Duddy's gone as far as he's ever gonna go, i don't think all the upheaval thats gone on in his career has helped his cause but for now he has his head down and is working hard to better himself and thats good enough for me.

Nah, you decided to read those double standards. What I was doing was addressing a point raised by another poster who had stated that he wouldnt put Duddy in with chavez etc as he feared he would lose. I disagree with that point as I believe Chavez is rubbish and Duddy would beat him. I am honest with my opinions with Irish boxers, I have criticised Duddy on this thread before, particularly his performance in the Eastman fight and others such as Andy Lee in his last performance. PS. If you can find me bigging up Duddy on this thread or elsewhere as a world title contender or having a top record, feel free to quote me:good
was at co dublin youth finals last night great night some cracking fights golden cobra had 2 lads on both very strong only 1 got the win but once again the crowd was bermuised by the scoring system as the 2nd boy on the brink of stopping his apponent lost the fight by 2 points crazy stuff. paulie hyland was there and was brought into the ring displaying his new belt the crowd loved it he staid all night presenting trophys getting fotos with the young boxers and signing autographs there wasnt a mark on him but said his hands wrere still sore from the fight, myself and phill suttcliffe was talking to paddy snr he told us it was a very tough fight he said the italian promoter who was chiannella,s manager started playing games on fight night to upset our team paulie was ready to into the ring at the contracted time 10oc when they told us the fight was put back 40 mins also a few other silly little things were done to upset the team but nothing worked we,d seen it all before and wer,nt going to let it upset us he also told us mel crystal informed them that paulie was the first irish pro to take the eu title out of italy making history, paddy said it was a great feeling standing to our national anthem on foreign soil realy added to our purpose for being there
Yep, fair enough & I also have a lot of respect for the guy. I completely agree. I like Duddy, I'm a Duddy fan. I think I'm just a natural pessimist. But yeah, I completely agree with this.
Whats Paulies plans next?? After a showing like that Pa Hyland should headline him in a show in the Citywest or somewhere:deal
Boxing champ Wayne McCullough in Beyonce video remake By Bryce McGarel BBC News Wayne McCullough performed the Beyonce routine after losing a bet Muhammad Ali may have been the one who floated like a butterfly and stung like a bee, but could he dance like Beyonce? Former world champion Wayne McCullough may not have had the punching power of the great Ali, but as a home video on You Tube shows, the Northern Ireland boxer seems to have the butterfly bit mastered. The video shows McCullough dressed in a black leotard and gold sequined high heels with matching belt, dancing around his living room to Beyonce's chart hit Single Ladies. Before beginning his performance, the Pocket Rocket tells the camera about his latest "challenge", which came about after he lost a bet with his daughter, Wynona Leigh. "So, here we go again another challenge," McCullough tells the camera. "My daughter said she would run a mile in less than 10 minutes. "I wasn't there to witness it, but she says she did it. So all the single ladies, here we go." The Pocket Rocket, who won the IBC Bantamweight title in 1995, then slaps his backside and twirls around in a brave attempt to mimic Beyonce's routine. The video, which was posted on the site last week, has so far racked up more than 1,600 page views. Although, opinion is divided amongst those who have watched his performance. 'Legend' One viewer wrote: "I've never seen a grown man do that but Wayne has some cojones (sic) to do that dance and in heels too... lol... what a legend." While another was less impressed. "This just looks so wrong," they say. McCullough grew up in the mainly Protestant Shankill Road in west Belfast and won a silver medal in the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona where he represented Ireland. He has changed his name by deed poll to Wayne Pocket Rocket McCullough and now lives in Las Vegas after becoming a US citizen. McCullough announced his retirement from boxing in June 2008 after losing to Juan Ruiz, but released a press statement in March 2009 saying he was returning to the sport. However, a comeback fight against WBA super-bantamweight champion Bernard Dunne failed to materialise after the boxer turned down McCullough's open request. He is currently working with the Ultimate Fighting Championship as a public relations associate. Didn't know Wayne won the IBC title...
