How much credit should Pac get for beating Clottey?

    IM not comparing Ortiz to Pacquiao, im just pointing out how Maidana recovered from two knockdowns and got up to win the fight. This is why I would give pacquiao tons of credit for knocking him out in the 1st. :deal

    If Cotto, a proven puncher on the world stage couldn't put a dent in Pacquiao, then I don't think Maidana, with his padded knockout record, would be able to either. He would have no chance and get comprehensively destroyed by Pacquiao.

    But he would hit him and he would actually fight him instead of covering up for 12 rounds.

    Pacquiao would find himself in a fight.

    Would you give credit to Pacquiao if he beat Graham Norton if Norton came out swinging? Your problem is you don't seem to undrstand that fighters have different styles. Clottey is hard to beat because of his granite chin, good defence and brilliant conditioning, he also has good power, good speed and good accuracy, but Pacquiao took away the threat of Clottey's attack by mesmerising him with his speed and combos. Clottey couldn't come out of his shell coz he wasn't allowed, not because he didn't want to.

    What is the point in going into this argument again? - we all knew what Clottey's style is and how he was going to approach the fight. He did what he does best and it didn't work - it worked against Judah, it worked against Corrales, it almost worked against Cotto. It just didn't work against Pacquiao. If he changed his style he was going to get flattened.

    Clottey - Credible opponent.
    Maidana - Would have been seen as a joke opponent.

    omg u didnt just say that? You say i compare ortiz to pacquiao and then u go and compare maidana to graham norton... :lol:

    ok, getting off the maidana match-up, as we are all agreed that pac would knock him out (although maidana would at least try and win). ill try another exmple... Tim Bradley!!

    Bradley would have given Pac a better fight than Clottey did... do you dispute this one too? :think

    this is what i am saying, everyone knew what the outcome was gonna be, even clottey!!

    answer this, do you honestly think that the pacquiao camp picked clottey because he was a challenge to pacquiao? You dont pick a fighter who has just come off the back of a loss and claim he is the best challenge out there. Clottey was picked to make pacquiao look good, another WW notch on his belt. Roach even said himself, clottey always does the same thing and it will be easy for pacquiao.

    They picked Clottey because he was the next best guy out there at Welter after the Mayweather fight fell through (and Mosley being unavailable).

    that mayweather fight fell through months ago. pac had plenty of time to drop 5lbs and fight someone in the more competitive LWW division.

    Mayweather - Fight called off
    Mosley - Fight against Berto fell through, signed to fight Floyd
    Cotto - Had just beat him
    Berto - Haiti earthquake meant he had to call off the Mosley fight, wouldn't have been prepared

    Who else out there at Welter was there for Pacquiao other than Clottey? And I am fairly sure he wants to stay at Welter to get better accustomed to the weight.

    he cant even make the 147 limit. he is more comfortable at LWW.

    This is what I mean, if theres nothing at welterweight for him, why not move down? you do know his next fight is gonna be at LWW dontcha? so he didnt fight clottey just to get accustomed to the weight.

    How do you know his next fight is going to be at light-welter? :huh

    Also, what fight other than Bradley (a stoppage win for Pacquiao) and possibly Alexander (again, a stoppage win for Pacquiao) is there for Pacquiao at light-welter?

    alexander, bradley, ortiz, maidana and Juan Diaz are all under 26 and considered up and coming superstars... the division is way stronger than the welterweight division. Having said that, the only fights i would give credit to pac for taking at this time are maidana, alexander, bradley and (seen as hes stepping up to LWW) valero.

    ortiz and diaz have just came off losses so he would get no credit from me for fighting them.

    these are the options at LWW as opposed to the ONE option at WW, an option which pacquiao was never in danger of losing the fight.


    also, he has to go down to LWW in his next fight in order to keep his ring title.
