Nothing like the big fight feel you get at the MEN mate. Cracking atmos. Oh no hang on, it was me & my ex bird watching Pink.
I can see him getting the wbo shot before a euro for sure, and smigga weould jump at it i am sure, but i just think i terms of ironing out a couple of issues, further defence of the british, then big fight with magee would be excellent. I am so pleased that after so long we are talking about paul smith in these types of terms, rather than another 8 rounder whilst he waits for his shot
Quigley would be another snooze fest, but an easier decision second time round I would think. I had Smith two up against Quigley and I think Smith would probably do better in a rematch. Quigley needs to campaign at MW for me. Dilks? Smith smashes Dilks. Easier fight than both Dodson and Quigley for me. Magee on the other hand, tough fight. Get Smigga in with Stieglitz. Strike while the iron is hot. If he fails then he's back to where he is now (that is, top end of domestic). He still gets his euro shot. Take Magee first and fail though (which I think would happen) and he's got no chance of a world shot.
I think he is top dog at domestic currently, and TBF dilks should be at light heavy IMO. Would love to see him in with stieglitz, as i think he stand a much better chance than many others, and it isn't smigga tinted glasses either. Smigga seems to be learning how to fight at a higher level, and there is a sharpness and edge to him. Plus i think his style, and punching power is good enough to give stieglitz problems.
dilks is WAY behind smith... this would be a tremendous hold'up in the progression of his career. he should fight magee and then some fringe world class fighters and then we will see.. magee is a good boxer but i think smith has his beating.
You know what mate, i have decided you talk a lot of sense. If he loses to stieglitz, the he loses, but still stands a good chance of fighting for the euro. I think he is showing what he is made of now, and he would steam roller dilks totally, if they fought, we would see a long over due KO. Last time smigga KO'd someone, it was rashid matumla, which was a good stoppage by the way (he'd never been stopped before)
i think this thread is coming to a close now. its been fun.... cant wait for the next one Paul Smith .::vs::. Brian Magee.......who wins and how? :good
I think it was a **** fight, which displayed courage and heart on Paul Smiths side. But overall, it should how **** the supermiddle british scene is.......
I doubt he'll beat Magee. Look at their respective performances last time out against similar level opponents, indeed Magee's opponent was more highly rated on a European level and it was away from home. Magee not only showed that he can fight and has the heart but he showed a lot of skill too, and thats something thats been sorely lacking from Paul Smith in recent outings. Apparently he has got it somewhere in his locker but purely on form Magee should be a comfortable favourite to win that fight.
magee is only good at his own pace. paul will take him into the trenches and lets see if magee can handle it. i think paul will win!! :think
I think its a more even fight i think Larsen fight is deceiving tbh hard to truely tell the Dane was obviously waaay on the slide and failed a drugs test so though it looks good on paper he could do with a decent challenge then we will see if he is still at the level he was if he is he beats Smith anything less it makes it interesting hes 36 odd now? Change of trainer injuries/inactivity lets see if these factors catch up with him
All this talk of Smith getting a world title shot has just got to be pie in the sky, the man is nowhere near that level. I have just checked the Boxrec rankings (I know, they are ****) Smith is ranked 21st and I can honestly say I don't see him beating anyone above him other than maybe Sherrington or Gare...so unless you consider the WBF strap as a "World title" he has absolutely no chance.
