I thought they may rival Hatton promotions etc in the battle of former fighters whom decided to do well on the other side of the ropes, but it imploded

Calzaghe is too much of an introvert to succeed as a promoter.

    This :deal

Hatton goes out to sign fighters the way he set about getting fights for himself. Calzaghe probably did the same

    Agree completely Dan.

I also think that if i was a fighter i would have more faith in Hatton managing to sell me than i would with Calzaghe. You need a personality, brass neck and a good ability to bull**** to make it. Hatton has all of these qualities, Calzaghe has none.

Basically JC has no charisma and is not very popular, he also lacks intelligence and so when dealing with people who have he struggles to gain thier respect....

Never expected him to succeed as a promoter, he just hasn't got the personality for it.

Calzaghe (pains me to say it) is the least marketable fighter that britain has produced in the last 15 years (junior witter exempt), Haye was doing ok at promoting whilst setanta was about, Hatton will do well as he is well liked in teh boxing world and very well liked by sky. He has made massive bucks and has great contacts over the pond. All of these factors will help him make it as a pro. Id take the Warren comment with a pinch of salt, the guy is a serpent of a man who always has to make a spiteful nasty jibe.

Check is frankly speaking articles on his site, you will see what i mean.

Nah, no way is he the least marketable fighter Britain has produced in the last 15 years. Selling 50,000 tickets for one fight is certainly not the work of someone who isn't marketable :good

As a fighter he was marketable because he was a fairly talented fighter.
To be a promoter you need to be approachable, have a certain amount of charisma and be well liked in boxing circles - Calzaghe has none of these qualities.

I honestly dont think he is that interested in boxing. Obviously he was a boxer and a thorough professional, but he didnt take me for a hardcore fan, whereas Hatton does take you as more as a fan of boxing.

He was marketable for his talent and status rather than personality, sorry my bad, i was vague in what in making my point. Here goes, every chance calzaghe had at making a name for himself or doing a deal which would give him more exposure and £££ he would pass upon whether they were big name fights e.g pavlik or the calvin klein boxer shorts. The guy is devoid of personality and lacks any charisma, haye and hatton have this in abundance. Calzaghe is interesing or doesnt really have a story, he is quite simply a lad who got bullied, runns up and down the welsh valleys and is teh mest smw ever. Yet stories about hatton can be told and sold. If calzaghe and hatton brought a book out tommorow hattons would sell 5:1 or more. Calzaghe doesnt have that x factor if you like. He could of made more cash and had more exposure in the time he was a boxer.

If i was a up and coming boxer and i wanted to take the next step i.e John Murray/Matt Macklin/Kell Brook and i could choose out of Hatton or Calzaghe i would choose hatton everyday. More chance of exposure like fighting on ffn and with decent crowds all around the country as opposed to newport leisure centre and the chance to earn £££ and the help to build a massive fanbase like hatton did. I love calzaghe but i know for a fact that he missed so many tricks. Fact is he wasnt as marketable as Hatton or Haye (if he continues as hw champ).

It doesnt help that calzaghe's stable consisted of no marks and his cards wernt televised. His promoting skills are as much as his dancing :verysad
