oh come on. lampley's comments were totally uncalled for.

if he said the same thing about jesus instead of allah, he probably would've been fired.

I know what asalaam aleikum means and I'm not offended by it.

I'm saying if you don't want people to mention your religion then DON'T bring attention to it by doing things like writing in Arabic.

You have complained in this thread about hos Muslims just want to be left alone, and why do people have to mention your religion. Well, if you write in Arabic then you are inviting people to make comments.

If I go into threads and needlessly quote passages from the Bible or say shalom to a Jewish user, I've no right to complain if someone then brings up Christianity/Judaism.

It was the person who created this thread, who brought religion in to this

Him writing in Arabic isn't what brought the attention to Islam! It was the nature of this thread, and Jim Lampley's comments which brought religion in to this matter

and if muslims start reciting surahs from the quran, then they've got no right to complain but why complain about them speaking arabic?

being a muslim and speaking arabic can be mutually exclusive. the largest muslim country in the world isn't an arab country.

    stop being so sensitive.

Lol, I think you're misunderstanding me.

I agreed with everything he wrote until I saw him greeting his "Muslim brothers" in arabic. It's not necessary on a forum about boxing and you can't complain about people mentioning Islam then do things like that. If he'd never done that then I would still agree with everything he said, about how people attack Islam too much etc.

Anywaaaay, I think Lampley is slightly out of his mind but this makes HBO's boxing coverage more entertaining in my opinion. I think some fights would be less entertaining without Lampley's 'insights'.

I assume you also dissapprove of Brother Nazim when he speaks at fight conferences?

And yeah Lampley is a good commentator to be fair

    Wa-alaikum Salaam.

IMO Jim's comments were just tacky. Usual hyperbole from him as always.

I dont think the Allah comment was a dig at Muslims or Allah, it was a dig at Naseem. Naseem mentioned Allah a lot pre fight, saying it was written for him to win and Allah gives him the power etc, so using Naz own logic he was saying Naz lost because it was written by Allah.

Whats wrong with that, its not as if he's saying Allah is fake or Allah is not good at fixing boxing matches or muslims are this and that...

Back to the thread. That ricky martin, bang bang rendition is funny as hell. I have no doubt Lampley would have gotten a lot of flak for that bit of commentary, its made news articles in many boxing websites. lol.

How can you be racist towards a religion?

People are twisting this into a bash on religion. It clearly wasn't. After every fight Naseem would say, "It was written by Allah" "It was written by Allah". All Lampley was implying was that this time it was written for him to lose.

And there would have been even less debate if he said the same thing about Jesus. People are not allowed to mention Jesus, pray in school, say Merry CHRISTmas; but have to tolerate public praise for all other religions.

If Ali were next to him at the time I don't think he would have been able to do much about it.

and after every floyd mayweather fight, he thanks God -- the very same God that hamed is referring to. but i never heard lampley take a shot at floyd for his religion.

and who are these people who can't mention jesus or say merry christmas?

Lampley never took a shot at religion. How is repeating Hamed's phrase a shot at religion? He in no way said anything disrespectful about the Muslim faith.

Come on, over time they've been pulling Jesus more and more away from public display. In school (and at work) we were told we had to say Happy holidays because Merry Christmas is offensive to non-christians. In school during Christmas, my kids are no longer allowed to exchange gifts, make Christmas cards, or even say a prayer because others who do not believe the same can be offended. What did they try to remove from the dollar bill? Oh yeah, "In God We Trust."

    I agree.

It was also the WAY he said it as well as what he said -- it just sounded malicious. I completely agree with Foreman. I mean, honestly -- 'The twelve rounds you have seen here, suggest that Allah knows how to spell Barrera'? People arguing that Lampley wasn't out of line with this comment are just...I don't even know what. Sadly misguided?
