Donovan Rudduck would have blasted Corrie Sanders out of there sharpish. I'm not impressed with Sanders, he was an average fighter who caught lightning in a bottle. Sure, he had a big one punch, but so did Razor Ruddock, in addition to his proven chin, and razor-like jab when he decided to use it. Donovan being one of the great mis-opportunities in my estimation, watching him box behind an educated jab early on in his career makes for some impressive footage. Soon as he knocked Dokes out cold, he fell in love with his power and that's all he relied on. Goodjob Mike had a great chin too.
I agree with my fellow posters above. Razor Ruddock was a force to be reckon with at one time. Tyson ruined him, then the likes of Morrison and Lewis finished him off from ever being a top notch fighter again. Sanders was a nobody until he beat Wlad. With knockout losses to Nate Tubbs and Haseem Rahman coming into that fight. I feel Ruddock would of smashed him within 3 rounds.
True, but Sanders became a HW champion when he demolished Wladimir Klitschko. Ruddock never accomplished anything in his career.
I hear what your saying, but Sanders is Buster Douglas to a lesser degree. Before he knocked Wlad out, he was just another heavyweight journeymen that was given a golden chance to prove himself and make some money fighting in Germany. He trained the best he could for a couple weeks and went in there and threw out his best and Wlad being the glass chinned fighter he is, couldn't take it. While Ruddock never was champ, he had alot more ability than Sanders. He just came in at the wrong time (Early-mid 90's), which was one of the best the division has looked since the early and mid 70's. Ruddock fought a few great heavyweights in and at around there primes. If was Ruddock was in his prime now, he would either be a belt holder or a top 5 heavyweight.
Since when was Sanders a journeyman? Granted,Ruddock had some decent wins, the Dokes KO was awesome but Michael was on the downside of his career at that point and never managed another notable win. Ruddock became power mad after that win and this i believe hindered his progress. Yes, Razor fought in the better era but was not the great fighter people make him out to be, sort of a 90s Ronnie Lyle - good enough to test the best and beat a few of them but ultimately did not have the complete package. Am not saying Sanders beats him but i think he has a very real chance, certainly for the first 4 rounds...
Nah, the WBO was a piece of crap when Sanders won it. Still is really. (Shannon Briggs anyone?). It's only become a bit more legit now it can be unified with other belts IMO.
How wasn't he? Answer me that. He beat noone of any substance, was in his late 30's when he knocked Wlad out. He had losses to Nate Tubbs and Haseem Rahman, both of which laid him out. Ruddock was clearly the better fighter, who fought in a very tough era of eavyweights. Sanders couldn't even get past Rahman, how would he get past the power of Razor Ruddock?
I voted for Ruddock by KO, but this is not a fair assessment of Sanders. Sanders was big, powerful, a southpaw, and had some of the fastest hands ever at heavy. In short, he had amazing offensive skills. Basically, he was a bit chinny and didn't like boxing. His training was poor at best, and he never maximized that offense. Sanders is s guy who could have been something in an alternate universe or something. All that said, Ruddock was for all of his own faults a warrior, and the smash would have won him the fight.
