Forrest wasnt the quickest guy, but he was techincally very tight. It was amazing to see how Mayorga was able to get inside his head, because Mayorga was not a good fighter. Sometimes those wild winging guys with good chins are the hardest to fight, but I think Pacs style resembles more of Mosleys than it does Mayorga, and I dont think Pac would do too well getting nailed by Forrests jab and righthand trying to get close to Forrest who used every bit of his height, plus Forrest wouldnt show the lack of respect he did against Mayorga in the first fight.
Good post. It's not so much the height thing for me, i don't really look to much at dimensions, though they are relevant, it's more the fighting styles. I don't know about Manny rushing him the way Mayorga did, that is a possiblility though, because Pacquiao's power is the kind that shocks your system because of the punch landing before you really see it coming. But for boxing Forrest is going to have this his way, like he did with unbeaten Mosley. Btw, unbeaten Mosley was different to the beaten version, the unbeaten one was a fighter that would launch attacks more often, attempting blistering type combos and hook-crosses etc etc. He must have suffered a confidence/mental issue i reckon, plus his speed has blatantly declined. Forrest just for me. Forrest was so good at landing hooks and uppercuts via the ja, them kind of moves would close the distance quickly, he'd throw a full range jab and come in with an uppercut-hook, really good to just watch and admire. The only reason i leave it open to debate personally is because Pacquiao is a definite greater fighter and great fighters can do great things.
I agree, but to add to this, thats why I want to see Pac in against Mayweather so badly. I want to see how he deals with a guy that moves and puches as accurately as Mayweather. Alot of stuff Pac does can be offset by a jab and straigh punches, and I want to see how he matches up against a technically very good fighter in Mayweather.
You could say all fighters can be offset by a good jab and straight punches really. Depends how good the fighter who's throwing them is. I don't see all the comparisons between Mosley and Pac myself. Pac's a southpaw for starters and he's more unorthodox stylistically. i'm not saying that Pac definitely beat Forrest but a lot of the early posts give him no chance. I'm hoping the Mayweather fight comes off as well. I want to see how Manny copes with Floyd.
Forrest was a very underrated fighter. He made a critical mistake in taking Mayorga for granted, and paid the price. He won the rematch, even though he didn't get the dicision. If not for major injuries, I have no doubt he would have been called a great fighter instead of just very good. He was very technically skilled. Pac has problems with skilled fighters. You don't have to be very fast to beat Pac, just very skilled. You also have to go to his body. Pac can take it to the head, but he's been hurt, and ko'd by body shots. Vernon made Mosely groan by body shots. I just think that Forrest is too long for Manny. I just see Pac getting tagged again and again trying to get in close to Vernon. Bad style matchup.
You can think Pac wins this fight, but do you at least acknowledge that Forrest is a step up in ability to any welterweight Pac has fought thus far? If not, take your ass back to the general forum and stop wasting our time.
